Migrating a Maximo server (Part Four)
For Tuesday's action: Migrating a Maximo server, Part Three. Did I say a Quick Active Directory integration setup? Yes. My Maximo 7.1 server uses LDAP security with Microsoft Active Directory 2008. Users and groups are synchronized with LDAPSYNC. So, out of necessity, when I migrated my Maximo server I created an LDAP integration setup document, based on my very simple setup. I have fleshed it the steps below. I hope it is helpful for administratorssetting up their first LDAP integration. (More experienced... [More]

Migrating a Maximo server (Part Three)
Monday's work: Migrating a Maximo server, Part Two. Yesterday's list looks really neat, doesn't it? I revised yesterday's list of to-do's extensively, in light of what actually happened during the migration. For one, I had to keep checking where I was storing my databases. I created a diagram on my white board to keep them all straight. Listed below are the databases and instances affected by the move. The new server is called MAXNC3082 . Migrating a Maximo server (Part One)
My group's infrastructure manager (let's call him Jon) Sametimed me the other day, and asked when I'd be able to give up my desktop server. My physical server is an old ThinkCentre, 8 GB RAM, Windows 2008 Server, Maximo 7.1, Oracle 11g. This server has been good for me over the past five years. No matter how many times it lost power, it came up like a champ. Sometimes I had to turn on the Oracle Listener, but that's all part of doing the job. Then there was the time the hard drive just up and died. But I had a backup, and plenty... [More]

Updated Migration Manager Redbook available
In my experience as a software engineer, the value of an IBM Redbook in software design, implementation and maintenance can never be overemphasized. I started using Redbooks as reference material in my development projects back in the 90s. Learning and applying techniques and best practices always helped me deliver quality software to my customers on time. Back then I couldn't have imagined I would be part of a Redbook authors team! Time has moved on and I am really happy to share with all of you the link to the updated Migration Manager... [More]
