A cluster groups similar functions on two or more Java virtual machines (JVMs) to process the function, such as scheduled cron tasks. Deploying Maximo in a clustered configuration can improve performance and reliability.
For example, you can configure resource-intensive operations, such as reports, to run in separate clusters. You can also configure processes that do not require user interaction, such as cron tasks, to run on separate clusters.
When you deploy Maximo in a clustered configuration, you complete several tasks within... [More]
Maximo Mobile applications are Java based applications that run on Windows based devices, such as PDAs with Windows Mobile, and Netbooks, Notebooks and Desktops. Those applications use a HTTP channel to exchange data, like Assets, Locations, Work Orders and Tickets with Maximo EAM. The HTTP protocol by itself does not provide cryptography on the data transport. The combination of HTTP + SSL (Security Socket Layer) support the data exchange between the server that hosts Maximo EAM and the Maximo Mobile applications. This combination is widely... [More]
Recently I encountered a Maximo user who requested for a report parameter lookup to be added to a BIRT Report request page. Not just any parameter, but an unbound Location(s) parameter lookup that was to only show and display records subject to the Location being specified on the request page. Upon initial setup of the Table Domain and simple lookups.xml modification, the goal was partially reached but the lookup was returning ALL locations and not those subject to the Table Domain.
Within our Report Development Guide(s) (... [More]
Last week I had a customer request if it was possible to create a Hyperlink within the header area of the Maximo/SCCD Start Center to access an external URL. I was already aware of similar ways to utilize Hyperlinks within Maximo, for example:
Adding a Hyperlink to a Custom Field ( Click here )
Launch in Context from a Hyperlink ( Click here )
However, the methods above were not exactly feasible for my customer's needs. Knowing the existing buttons within the header (Go To, Sign Out, Help, etc) were... [More]
Now that you've installed WebSphere 8.5.5, how do you get Maximo 188.8.131.52 to run on it?
There are two ways to do it.
The hard way is to set up everything manually. This requires that you know what needs to be set up. More importantly, it requires that you need to know where to go to find out what needs to be set up.
While WebSphere 8.5.5 is a big leap forward for WebSphere, a lot of that's under the hood. You don't see it. To the Maximo administrator, the interface will look very familiar. You will be... [More]
Is the migration of configuration content between
your Maximo instances requiring some "assistance" in dealing with
content related errors?
Are you constantly dealing with failed deployment situations
due to configuration content differences between your various Maximo instances
(e.g. Development, QA) ? If you answer yes to any of the previous questions, you might want to leverage Migration Manager Replacement Rules functionality and replace, during package deployment, invalid field values before they generate a deployment... [More]
In the Database Configuration application have you ever tried to join two objects to create a view using the 'Join to object' field and received the error
When you use the 'Join to object' field, the application will try to find matching attributes in the 'Extends object' and the 'Join to object' objects and will automatically update the 'View where' field. So why do you receive this error when you know both objects have the attribute assetnum? This is because the rules we use to determine... [More]
Recently, I got questions about why PM generated Child Work Orders from routes do not have PM (Preventive Maintenance) information populated. This is actually working by design. Only the work order the PM created references the PM on it. The children are created by the route stops, not the PM record. Hence, the child work orders would not contain have any PM information.
However, Maximo can be configured to have the PM information populated on child work orders by creating crossover domains and escalations.
Below are... [More]
Out of Memory condition could occur when deploying ear file in Websphere console or when running Maximo 7.5
Additional configuration from Websphere is needed to avoid getting error: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space in the log.
Open the WebSphere Application Server administration site by typing http://hostname:port/ibm/console .
The port is the number of the HTTP administrative port, which is 9060 by default. Type an ID (any ID without a password) and log in to it.

Are you a Maximo Asset Management customer at fixpack 184.108.40.206 or above? Would your Asset Management users like to complete their day-to-day activities more quickly AND type less? Then you should consider configuring the type-ahead feature on your Maximo Asset Management server.
To learn more, please read this article on our wiki, Configuring Type-ahead.
One of the key features of Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) is its ability to dynamically calculate the life (meter totals) of any asset.
Meter values can be derived and viewed for any point in time in the history of the assets life cycle. This "active life cycle accounting" provides improved compliance for regulated industries, while helping to increase reliability and accountability.
The calculation itself incorporates the configuration history of an asset. Ie where it has been installed and between what dates... [More]
Configuration Managed (CM) assets are different from other product assets because they can be composed of other assets or components defined within a hierarchy that have associated CM rules. Thus, CM assets are also called complex assets and they are built based on its corresponding model.
You can have a better understanding of the ACM Model application and its concepts accessing the following URL:... [More]
They stack rocks higher in San Diego. Walking by the San Diego Pier while attending the fabulous FMMUG conference last week, I saw cairn rock sculptures over 10 feet high carefully being built.
Speaking of rocks…have you seen the new Maximo Report Wiki Site ….. and doesn’t it ROCK? Over 100 report wiki pages are available to you with virtual, detailed, dynamic information on a range of topics from report options, resources and... [More]
Last week I showed you my cubicle . This week, I used one of my favorite tools – my Magic 8 Ball – to see if I should show you more, and received ‘Reply Hazy’ in return. Okay…I’ll follow its guidance and hold for now. But what I do want to share today is more information on Report Upgrading. When Maximo 220.127.116.11 was initially released, we noted that it included an upgrade to BIRT 3.7.1 . If you were using a previous version of Maximo (and hence a lower version of BIRT) we recommended report upgrade best practices which included backup... [More]
Email! That word triggers both positive and negative
reactions as this year’s holiday season gets underway. On the one hand, we want
to be sure we receive those emails with special offers for holiday shopping. On
the other, we are annoyed when we get spammed. We wonder about the thousands of
emails routed daily through automated email systems.
Automated email systems supporting a business’ IT operations
are a different story altogether. Emails may be the quickest and cheapest
mechanism for users to alert IT teams of issues.... [More]
