Once in a while I'll get questions about performance problems. Specific scenarios can be resolved by applying Interim Fixes or adding indexes. Those critical and urgent problems often happen throughout the entire system.
Here is a collection of performance related recordings and technotes that might help:

For Tuesday's action: Migrating a Maximo server, Part Three.
Did I say a Quick Active Directory integration setup? Yes. My Maximo 7.1 server uses LDAP security with Microsoft Active Directory 2008. Users and groups are synchronized with LDAPSYNC.
So, out of necessity, when I migrated my Maximo server I created an LDAP integration setup document, based on my very simple setup. I have fleshed it the steps below. I hope it is helpful for administratorssetting up their first LDAP integration. (More... [More]
Monday's work: Migrating a Maximo server, Part Two.
Yesterday's list looks really neat, doesn't it? I revised yesterday's list of to-do's extensively, in light of what actually happened during the migration. For one, I had to keep checking where I was storing my databases. I created a diagram on my white board to keep them all straight. Listed below are the databases and instances affected by the move. The new server is called MAXNC3082 .
What happened on Friday: Migrating a Maximo server, Part One.
I have a bit of an advantage with this migration. My source and target servers are ideally suited for each other: they have the same operating system and bitness - Windows s008 R2 64-bit.
What's moving :
one Oracle database server with three databases: max62, max71, sccd75
one WebSphere 188.8.131.52 server with four Application servers: max62server, max62SQLserver, max71server, RMIregistry
one Maximo... [More]
My group's infrastructure manager (let's call him Jon) Sametimed me the other day, and asked when I'd be able to give up my desktop server.
My physical server is an old ThinkCentre, 8 GB RAM, Windows 2008 Server, Maximo 7.1, Oracle 11g. This server has been good for me over the past five years. No matter how many times it lost power, it came up like a champ. Sometimes I had to turn on the Oracle Listener, but that's all part of doing the job. Then there was the time the hard drive just up and died. But I had a backup, and... [More]
I'd like to start my first blog entry by introducing myself. My name is Mario Travers and I'm one of the team leads for the Maximo EAM Support group. I've been working with Maximo now for over 8 years (might actually be longer than that but my memory isn't what it once was) in various roles within in support for IBM and, previous to my old companies' acquisition by IBM, at MRO Software. Throughout my time here I've been lucky enough to be involved with many great projects within the support team... [More]
What exactly is consist management?
In the rail industry, a group of assets (cars, locomotives,
etc.) that are coupled together to form a train are often referred to as a
Consist. This may also be referred to as
a Train Set.
The process of assembling a collection of individual assets
into a train set or consist is referred to Consist Management.
What this means in terms of a Maximo process is defining the
possible contents of a two level hierarchy and defining rules around these
contents. Defining the... [More]
Smarter Infrastructure & Social Media In the world of Industrial Equipment Social Media has
become the key aspect of how we communicate, exchange and receives information.
As events happen, messages are routed in real-time all over the planet, thanks
to fast cellular networks, smart phones and vibrant people of this planet.
As we have learnt
to adapt and embrace technology to help us be more efficient, we can use
similar concepts in the world of Smarter Infrastructure. Infrastructure is
getting Smarter every day, as... [More]
Q. OK, so what exactly is Telematics?
A. The integrated use of telecommunications and
informatics, also known as ICT (Information and Communications Technology).
More specifically it is the science of sending, receiving, and storing
information via telecommunication devices.
Q. How about in plain English?
A. Electronic devices on-board assets collect information
that is extracted and used in some way.
Q. How about a picture? A.
Q. What kind of information do... [More]
Independence of security groups are one of the most misunderstood concepts in the Maximo/TPAE security construct. Why would you want a group to be independent? What are the implications of checking that check box? Basically, security group independence exists to allow you to configure site specific access to a set of applications, options or controls. If you are not configuring site specific rules you don’t need an Independent group. If you only have one site, you should never have Independent groups. By default, security groups combine with... Hello and welcome to my first post! After seeing a demonstration from Carey Clarke, Designer & Architect of IBM Maximo Transportation, I decided to write a very easy step-by-step configuration using Maximo core functionalities to manage a great need in Transportation companies - the management of retreaded tires. Introduction Currently, in organizations with a large fleet, tires management is one of the most costly activities. These organizations that have larger number of assets need to consider reuse of existing assets, like... [More]
An important interoperability feature in Maximo is its capability of interacting with external applications via web service calls. Support of this type of integration scenario is achieved by the deployment of Integration Framework services (Object Structure, Enterprise, and Standard) as web services (inbound integration scenario) and by calling external web services by means of web service compliant end point (outbound integration scenario). Prior to Maximo 7.5 release, the Integration Framework support of web service interoperability was... [More]
Maximizing equipment availability and reliability while reducing cost investment starts with a clear detailed maintenance strategy -- a "living reliability centered maintenance (RCM) Program. The outcome of the program is a collection of defined condition-based maintenance job plans and regular inspections. We need to work efficiently and effectively. We must not only do the work right, we must do the right work. Maintenance needs to be based upon the operating consequences of failure. An RCM program identifies your critical equipment... [More]
Today I want to tell everyone about the new Maximo Mobile
Cookbook for Customizations. When I say cookbook, I mean a document that
provides the ‘recipes’ or instructions, for building some of the most common
modifications to the Maximo Mobile applications.
Have you ever wanted to add a few extra fields to one of the
screens in Maximo Mobile? How do you change the color of the high priority work
orders in your work list? Maybe you want to change the validation rules for a
certain field or enable a table window to support bar... [More]
In the last couple of Maximo releases, the Integration
Framework has been evolving to provide an improved user experience that will
assist you with the challenges involved with external system integration. For those of you who are not familiar with the Integration
Framework take a look at Maximo 7.5 info center for additional information on
how it enables Maximo to integrate data with other applications http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v49r1/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.mbs.doc/gp_intfrmwk/c_if_overview.html
