From the Maximo Support Desk - ACM Technical Record Creates Asset But No Work Order
Maximo clients have reported that in some scenarios, that the ACM Technical Record does not create the expected PM Work Order. It is observed that the corresponding Asset gets created only. The most likely reason for this condition is that the values of the Effective Date and Comply By Date fields are the same on the Maintenance Plan of the Technical Record. If the Effective Date value is the same as the Comply By Date value, then this causes the Frequency Date on the resulting PM to be set to 0. These values must be different.... [More]

What is Maximo ACMs CM Items(CM) application about?
My name is Edgar Mengelberg and I have been working with the Maximo and TPAE product suite in various Support roles for over 15 years. Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) was originally developed to be used in the Aviation industry. This was because the aviation industry deals with complex components that have many sub parts and strict regulations. This leads to maintenance processes that need to be carefully planned and executed. While Maximo Base Services or TPAE can handle these tasks, ACM has specific functionalities that make... [More]

New features available in Maximo Asset Configuration Manager 7.5.1
Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) is a Add On solution to the core Maximo Asset Management solution. ACM is designed to support complex components that have many sub-parts and require carefully planned and executed maintenance. Currently, ACM is used in the aerospace, defense and rail sectors where safety and regulatory compliance is of primary importance, particularly in the area of tracking the status of historical... Maximo ACM and Component Life Accounting
One of the key features of Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) is its ability to dynamically calculate the life (meter totals) of any asset. Meter values can be derived and viewed for any point in time in the history of the assets life cycle. This "active life cycle accounting" provides improved compliance for regulated industries, while helping to increase reliability and accountability. The calculation itself incorporates the configuration history of an asset. Ie where it has been installed and between what dates and is derived... [More]

ACM Assets Quick Overview
Configuration Managed (CM) assets are different from other product assets because they can be composed of other assets or components defined within a hierarchy that have associated CM rules. Thus, CM assets are also called complex assets and they are built based on its corresponding model. You can have a better understanding of the ACM Model application and its concepts accessing the following URL: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/mydeveloperworks/blogs/a9ba1efe-b731-4317-9724-a181d6155e3a/entry/acm_quick_user_guide_models2?lang=en... Work Packaging with Maximo ACM for Transportation Assets
The Challenge : Planning packages of work can provide a number of challenges, particularly for transportation type assets where the dynamic nature of the assets operations means that the asset may not be where it is supposed to be!! Maintenance facilities are resourced based on carrying out a range of maintenance tasks, they know that for a given time period they will be maintaining an asset from the fleet (or a third party client) but not necessarily which specific asset it will be, to a certain extent they do not care which asset it will... Managing Design Change with Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM)
Asset Configuration Manager (CM) contains a powerful tool for
creating and managing critical time-dependent maintenance or design
change tasks that typically apply to an entire fleet. The Technical Records (CM) application is used to manage and apply changes issued by manufacturers, vendors, regulatory agencies, and others. Technical Records (CM) can be used to manage the following types of records from manufacturers,
vendors, and regulatory agencies: Airworthiness Directives. (AD's are issued when an aviation authority finds that an... [More]

ACM Quick User Guide - Models
Configuration Management (CM) is the specification of allowable as-designed asset assemblies (“Models”) and/or as-maintained physical builds. It can also mean the process of ensuring that actual asset physical builds meet the requirements of an allowable configuration. Functional builds may also be represented (for example, an “electronic systems only” view of the equipment). For the purposes of this “Models” application design, we take the rigorous view that Configuration Management refers only to reference data (i.e. the configurations... [More]

Adding and making an initial configuration on ACM Models with the Maximo Integration Framework
Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) allows the construction, use and management of complex assets. These assets are generated based on structures known as Models. These models are built based on sub components known as build items (cm items). The ACM 7.5.0.1 patch introduced the ability to use the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF) to perform many ACM functions and load data into associated tables. One of the most common and time consuming functions used within (ACM) is the addition and configuration of complex Models. These operations... [More]

Managing Fleets in Maximo ACM
What is a Fleet in ACM (Asset Configuration Manager) ? A Fleet is a (dynamic) list of end-items (Aircraft, Engines, Rail Vehicles etc) that have some form of common association, e.g. all the assets may have the same operator or owner, or may all be of a particular Model or Variation. The fleets that are created are then used in the Maximo ACM Fleet Usage Load application to facilitate the bulk data load of meters against a fleet of assets and, may also be used for reporting capability. Use Case: An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or an... [More]

Installing and Removing ACM Assets with the Maximo Integration Framework
Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) allows a complete history of the components which make up a complex a
Asset to be maintained and easily viewed for any given point in time. The ACM 7.5.0.1 patch introduced the ability to use the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF) to perform many ACM functions and load data into associated tables. One of the most common functions used within (ACM) is the and removal and installation of sub-assembly Assets. These operations are now achievable via the MIF and three separate transactions are possible: ... [More]

What do an airline, a national train operator and a global engine manufacture have in common?
What do an airline, a national train operator, and a global engine manufacture have in common? They probably have any number of things in common, but as
this is a Maximo blog I will focus on the fact that they are all using Maximo
Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) at the core of their business. You may be asking ‘why’ and ‘what does ACM
actually do’? And apart from using ACM, what else do these businesses have in
common? Complex

Keeping a BDI on your Assets.
Maximo
Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) is designed to manage the
configuration management requirements of complex assets operating in
the aerospace, defence and rail sectors where safety and regulatory
compliance is of primary importance. One
of the central components of Maximo ACM is the Build
Data Interpreter (BDI). At
it's most basic level the BDI analyses configuration managed Assets
position by position to ensure that they comply with the
configuration rules established in the corresponding model. That
said the BDI is a pretty... [More]
