Start Workflow from Maximo Scheduler? Really?

Yes, in Maximo Scheduler 7.5.1 you can right click on a work order in the Gantt chart's activity list and initiate workflow on that work record - or on multiple selected rows simultaneously.
In fact, the right click produces a pop-up menu that allows you to perform many work order actions without leaving Scheduler. These include: change status; bulk editing of various work details (like priority and target dates for example); select owner; create communication; view item availability; create a follow-up work order; and others.
I'm posting my Technical Thursday entry on Wednesday, as many of us are heading out to Pulse to participate in some of the many pre-Pulse activities with our customers, the sales teams and business partners.
Just like last year, we have so much more to show in the planning and scheduling area of the Solution Expo this time around. (Next year will be even more, but let's not jump ahead!).
Scheduler 7.5.1 and its counterpart, Graphical Assignments, delivered extended functionality and improved navigation in the visual, drag and drop framework that planners and schedulers use to transform volumes of work, resource and calendar information into logical, clear schedules of work. In addition to the features above, you can now easily select a group of work orders and move them an hour, day, week or to a specific date.
In the resource chart, which originally showed craft load and availability, there are new tabs containing significantly more schedule information. One shows costs by work order cost categories. Another shows asset, location and item availability so you can see the precise opportunity window for performing work, using operational and maintenance overlays to the asset or location's normal available time. Another tab can group work orders by properties such as asset, job plan, location, PM, priority and work type.
A new Gantt view shows not just the schedule dates of the work orders, but the target and actual dates as well. In this view, you can see at a glance whether work orders are early, late or on time, and what downstream impact the exceptions have on the overall schedule.
A Calculate Cost feature shows you the breakdown of the work order costs by week, month and year. A compliance feature calculates a metric to show you how close (or far) your actuals were to plan.
Graphical Assignments is a brand new application in the Scheduler module which gives supervisors visibility of their work, and visibility of labor people and crews. It is then a matter of dragging and dropping work onto resource slots to create assignments. Calendar exceptions are shown by individual, as are commitments to work outside the current schedule, to minimize the potential of double-booking. Calendar exceptions were improved to allow multiple entries per day, of either extra work time or restricted work time. Calendars now can have a lunch break defined, which also has visibility in the Graphical Assignment app.
