Abstract

Simplified procedure to generate Maximo log

Body

We have different technical references on Maximo Logging already published. In this post, I would like to share the following simplified procedure that we can use to create a log to troubleshoot the most of common application problems we may have.

Please keep in mind that depending on the problem, logs configured with other settings might be necessary. In addition, please consider:
- If the problem scenario is replicable in the Maximo Test environment, generate the Maximo log in the Test environment in order to avoid any impact in Production.
- While generating the log, perform only the steps needed to replicate the problem, otherwise a too big file will be created.
- Before changing the Maximo logging settings, gather screen-shots from the current configuration. These screen-shots will be useful while reverting the changes.

Simplified procedure to generate Maximo log:

1. Go to System Configuration > Platform Configuration > Logging.

2. Configure the Root Loggers as:

Root Loggers:
Logger = sql
Log Level = INFO
Appenders = Console,Rolling

Root Loggers:
Logger = application
Log Level = DEBUG
Appenders = Console,Rolling

3. Select Action > Set Logging Root Folder
This option allows us to select a folder where the Maximo log will be created.

4. Save.

5. Click OK on “BMXAA5191W - Logging settings have been changed. However, changes will not take effect until the Apply Settings action is executed.”.

6. Select Action > Apply Settings.

7. Replicate the problem scenario and send the log to IBM Maximo Support.
