If only all of life's annoying little tasks could be automated. Your bed would be made just as soon as you get out of it, your lawn would be mowed when the grass gets a little long, and your dishwasher would fill and empty itself. Unfortunately we can't offer this at Maximo, but we do provide you with the ability to automate routine application tasks. The automation scripts application has been around for some time now, but in Maximo Asset Management 22.214.171.124 the documentation is enhanced to help you make the most of the application.
The new content includes a detailed end-to-end example of the implementation of an automation script with an action launch point. The example outlines the steps you take to automate assigning service requests to service groups. The example describes a scenario where a pipeline leak is detected and must be assigned to the correct service group, depending on the volume of the pipeline. If the volume is greater than 1000 cubic feet, a work log entry must also be created. The example shows how MBO APIs must be used to create the work log.
Information on how you can retrieve data by using variable bindings is also provided in the new content. The new information includes an example that shows how to use array notations to retrieve data. Other smaller changes have also been introduced such as general information on what automation scripts are and the skills that are required to use the scripts successfully. Finally, for each type of launch point, a sample scenario of when the launch point could be used is briefly described.
The new content can be found in the 'Automating routine application tasks' section of the information center here
