I have been trying to figure out for the last few months what to write my new blog about. I decided that I would create a running series of tips and tricks that can be used in Maximo and do a running entries as I learn them. So my first entry will be today about the item master application and adding a new asset taking into account the default stock categories.
In Maximo 7 we have the ability to set the default stock category in the Organizations applications:
The default stock category set in the organization application is the category that then carries over the PR/PO when you add an item to the PR/PO Lines.
To help identify your items better and the money spent on stocked, non stocked or special order items you can now use the stock category as a way of tracking. First We will want to start by updating the domain (CATEGORY) with your needed synonym values:
If you would like to use the Special Order Item (out of the box value) you just need to place a check mark in the box, the box is available in the organizations application under PO Options:
So we have added our synonym values, have activated our special order items, we can now add items and use the categories as needed. In the item master application we have pressed new row and have entered the items details. We have set the organizations default stock category to stk, so any item added will use that unless we specify differently. For this item we are adding we want to add it as a NS item, so we create the item and from the select action menu we chose Item/Organization details. For the Organization being used press the select value next to the Stock Category field and you will see the value added to the domain earlier:
Select the value as needed, and now head over to create a new PR/PO, add the item to the record:
You now have one more way of tracking your inventory using the stock category.
