Manual VS Crontask

Abstract

Manual VS Crontask

Body

After working supporting Maximo for the past 9 years I have started posting to share some of what I have learned. In my time here I have spoken to so many different kinds of Maximo users, from the super advanced, to the user who is seeing it for the first time. My hopes are to share my knowledge, have people see the product in a different way and to spark conversation about the versatile software called Maximo.

Sometimes I wonder, automatic or manual, which is better. I say that anything we can automate let's do it and free up some spare time. In Maximo we have the ability to use corn task's to automate process and lessen the workload on users along them more time for other things. Out of the box Maximo comes with over 30 cron task and allows for the creation of user defined ones as well. There are cron task's available for many different areas in Maximo, some require very little information to set up while others require a little more thought as to what goes into them. But the outcome will be the same for all, time saved. Why has a user continuously perform the same action time after time, day after day? Use a cron task and free up some of their time, so they can take a 15 minute coffee break instead of 10, kidding. But seriously using the cron task will allow for timely and reliable generation of many Maximo actions. John is sick today and no one available to generate Pm's to work orders, no problem set up the cron task to do it. Tammy forgot to run the work order generation, no issues set up the cron task to generate the records, it's like an elephant, it never forgets. Some cron task set up is pretty straight forward, others require a little more set up, but in the end the outcome will be the same, time saved. So take a moment and go to the cron task set up application and take a look at what is there. You may see some there that help free up some time for your users, allowing them to become even more productive in other areas.
