Abstract

Maximo Upgrade Tips: Maximo for Nuclear Power 6.x to 7.5.1 Upgrade Path

Body

On 10/12/2012, IBM released Maximo for Nuclear Power V7.5.1

.

So, for those who are willing to upgrade their Nuclear Power V6.x to the V7.5.1, below is a flowchart to help you quickly perform this upgrade path. For those who want to upgrade directly from Nuclear Power V7.1.x you do not need to follow the steps under "Upgrade process for Nuclear Power v6.3 -> Nuclear 7.1.x" of the flowchart. You just need to follow the steps under "Upgrade to V7.5" below. In this case make sure to bypass the steps related related to Maximo for Calibration if you do not have this installed in your Maximo 7.1.x version:

1- The Maximo+Nuclear 6.x level must be set to the level Maximo 6.2.8 + Calibration 6.5 + Nuclear 6.3.1. If is not, the patches must be applied and the updatedb executed to make sure that the database will be at this level of product version.

2- Then you need to create another DB that will be used only for the purpose of creating the 7.1.x folder. The installation of Maximo 7.1.1.10+Calibration 7.1.2+Nuclear 7.1.1  must be done pointing to this database. To do that you must install:
        a) Maximo Base Services 7.1.0
        b) MBS 7.1.1.10
        c) Calibration 7.1.2
        d) Nuclear 7.1.1
        e) Apply the latest hotfixes for MBS 7.1.1.10, Calibration 7.1.2 and Nuclear 7.1.1 paying attention to the instructions to be followed in hotfix readme files, mainly to the Calibration 7.1.2 readme which will have some manual steps to be performed.
        f) With everything above done, you can discard if you want the 7.1.x db, or maintain it for comparation later with the upgraded to the 71.x level db. The maximo.properties file must be updated to point to the 6.x database, instead the 7.1.x used for the folder creation.

3- Run the upgradeui.tool of the Maximo 7.1.x folder (\tools\maximo\upgradeui.bat).

4- By following the guidelines described in the 6_to_7upgrade_e16.pdf file, run the Integrity Checker, then Validate and finally the Upgrade. At the end, the db will be at the 7.1.0 level.

5- Run updatedb after the upgrade completed successfully. At the end, the db will be at the Maximo 7.1.1.10+Calibration 7.1.2+Nuclear 7.1.1 level.

6- Run Integrity Checker again, by using the integrityui.bat tool, to fix any error that still could be reported.

7- Set the install.properties file to point to the upgraded db. This way, the next installer executions are going to upgrade to the 7.5.x level your pre-upgraded db from 6.x to 7.1.x level. Refer to the guide for any other configuration needed - pos-upgrade steps - depending of your environment.

From the next steps the details can be found in the mam_75_upgrade_guide.pdf file.

8-  Install Maximo Asset Management 7.5  pointing to your 7.1.x folder. (if the option to defer the updateb is displayed make sure to select it during the installation).

9- Install Maximo Asset Management 7.5.0.3 pointing to your 7.1.x folder (if the option to defer the updatedb is displayed make sure to select it during the installation).

10- Install Calibration 7.5 (if the option to defer the udpatedb and redeployment are displayed make sure to select them during the installation).

11- Apply the latest Calibration 7.5. hotfix following the instructions of the hotfix readme file, except the part of running the updatedb. The updatedb will be performed later.

12- Install Nuclear 7.5.1 (if the option to defer the updatedb and redeployment are displayed make sure to select them during the installation).

13- Run again the MAM 7.5.0.3 installer, this time, make sure to DO NOT defer the updatedb. This time, the updatedb will be performed an at the end your db is upgraded from Maximo 7.1.1.10/Calibration 7.1.2/Nuclear 7.1.1 to Maximo 7,.5.0.3/Calibration 7,.5/Nuclear 7.5.1.

14- Refer to the mam_75_upgrade_guide.pdf for any additional step (pos-upgrade steps) needed, depending of your environment, but basically you run the Integrity Checker (integrityui.bat tool) to fix any error that still could be reported and then you build the ear file and deploy it in a supported application server version in order to get access to Maximo.

The steps described could be more complicated, even having some additional steps that can be found in the upgrade guides, depending of some variables, like db, application server, size of the db, client customization level, other addons, languages, and so on.

I'd like to thanks Felipe dos Santos Jardim, my team-mate who contribute by creating the flowchart above.

That's it folks! Until the next post!
