Changing where your Start Center and Go To Buttons display in the Navbar in Maximo 7.6

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Changing where your Start Center and Go To Buttons display in the Navbar in Maximo 7.6

Body

New properties in Maximo 7.6 have made it easier to change the way the buttons appear in the Maximo Nav bar.

Depending upon your personal preference you can show the header buttons as they show in Maximo 7.5 or you can set it to use the more modern button positioning and appearance.  If you upgrade from a previous version of Maximo, then it defaults to the traditional appearance and if you have a fresh installation of version 7.6 it defaults to the modern look.  The image below shows what I mean by the modern look.

The Start Center and Go To buttons are larger and appear in the left of the navigation bar instead of on the right side.

In addition, the Go To button image is changed to look like a menu button.  The traditional look below has smaller icons on the right for the Start Center and Go To buttons.

You can change your Start Center header appearance from one to the other by changing the mxe.webclient.homeButtonHeaders and mxe.webclient.gotoButtonHeaders properties in the System Properties application. Setting the value to 1 will show the modern look while setting it to 0 will give it the traditional appearance.

The following chart shows the outcome for the various alternatives.  The systemNavBar property is also a factor in one scenario as noted.

Scenario HomeButtonHeader gotoButtonHeader systemNavBar Result
A 1 1 0 or 1 Home and goto options upper left of Nav bar
B 0 1 0 or 1 Home and goto options upper right of Nav bar
C 0 0 0 or 1 Home and goto options upper right of Nav bar
D 1 0 0 Home and goto options upper left of Nav bar
E 1 0 1
Home option upper left of Nav bar. No goto in Nav bar
Note Scenario (D). With no System navigation bar maximo ensures that the Goto button appears. Otherwise the user would have no means to move between applications.
Try various combinations to find the one that suits your needs.
