“Are you sharing?” As the rush of adrenaline ripped thru me during last week’s client web conference….I quickly opened different browsers, logged in as multiple users, and emailed files…in the quest to share my presentation and demo with everyone. But my sharing never did materialize.
The jury is still out on the source of the technical difficulties (operator error?)....but the good news...is that the information from the Maximo-Cognos Integration session is now available on-line!
The focus of the reporting session was on the integration of the two tools. It detailed the full cycle of creating a Cognos Query Studio report for Maximo, including the 4 key steps below.
2. Creating the Report Object Structure. Next, the steps of creating a Report Object Structures (ROS) in Maximo were detailed as Cognos uses meta data for report creation. ROS are collections of database objects joined together via maxrelationships -- and can be used to simply the Cognos meta data creation process. The example used in the demo creates a simple ROS using the Asset and Work order application. After this is created, the ROS is prepared for reporting by hiding attributes like extra fields, that are not utilized by report developers.
3. Publishing the Report Object Structure to Cognos as the Meta Data package. From the Object Structure application, the prepared ROS is converted and published to Cognos for use as a reporting package.
4. Creating the Ad Hoc report in Cognos Query Studio. In this last step, you add the fields, define sorting, grouping and filtering, along with other features of adding a graph, and saving.
You can download the complete presentation here download, and you can also see a condensed demo recording here
Additionally, you can find Maximo Cognos reporting documentation here, including the integration guides for Maximo V7.1 and V7.5 which provide additional detail on creating ROS for Cognos. Also, you can review a comparison of the BIRT and Cognos reporting tools used within Maximo here.
Finally, I hope you join me this Friday, June 29th at 11am EST for a session on how to maximize your use of On-Line reporting resources. This session will review dynamic information including the Asset Management and Report Communities, along with wiki pages, blogs, user forums and a whole lot more!
