Nestled inside rich red velvet drizzled with dark and milk chocolate, a delectable cream cheese bursts with unexpected and delightful flavors. This cookie, along with many other incredible desserts, starred in a Chocolate Buffet Fund Raiser that I chaired this past weekend to raise money for local food and fuel charities.
Nestled inside enterprise and legacy rich Maximo, the unexpected, powerful Report Viewer application waits for you. This application was introduced in Maximo Version 7.5, along with many other notable report features detailed here
But what exactly does the Report Viewer application do? It enables users to view their scheduled report output within Maximo.
Taking a step back, prior to Maximo Version 7.5, you could email your scheduled reports in either xls or pdf file format. However, for large, complex reports, the size of the emailed report output could become large and potentially blocked from sending via your SMTP server.
Therefore, new functionality was developed in Maximo Version 7.5 for you to email a scheduled report to a url (application), instead of sending the report output file thru your email server.
The outputs of these scheduled reports are held in the Report Viewer application. So - when the user schedules one of these reports, he receives an email with a url. The url takes him to the Report Viewer application where he can download and view the report's output.
The Report Viewer application is located from the Go To Menu in the Application – Reporting – Report Viewer application. However, for ease of access, I place it directly on my Start Center in my Favorite Applications portlet as shown here.
You can find more details on the Email URL functionality, including the database tables used to hold its contents, and the cron task that maintains its output at the BiLog entry here:
Or in the Version 7.5 Report Feature guide in the section titled ‘Report Scheduling’ here
