Technical Blog Post

Abstract

When editing the description from a record the user is unable to immediately search by description and find this record

Body

When searching for an item by description, click on the item to edit it, change the description by adding some text at the end and save.

Go back to the list of items you searched for and the edited item will be in italics. Hit refresh and the item disappears.

It will not let you search by description for that item. You can search for it by number and it will be found.

Eventually, if you exit the application and go back in, you can search for it by description again, but not immediately.

This is the expected behavior and it happens because the description attribute you are searching has search type TEXT.

The way text search works is different from non-text search in that the search is index based. When you have changed the text in the description, the new text needs to be indexed first for it be searchable.

The index is rebuilt automatically, but might not be instantly. So you might have to wait for a few minutes for the index to be re-generated.

Also, text search index ignores words (called stop words) like the, a, this, etc, and texts that it doesn't recognize as words. So the search result might not be what you expect depending what you entered and what you searched.

The work around is to change the search type of this field to WILDCARD.
