System Property effects display of Bulletin Board messages

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

System Property effects display of Bulletin Board messages

Body

Hello All,

There was a recent issue in Maximo 7.6 (APAR IV83313) where the Bulletin Board icon was not being instantly refreshed when messages were reviewed.  This was corrected for version 7.605 but users may still not find it working correctly depending on the value they have for the PMBBISTRACKED system property.  This property was created to indicate if Bulletin Board messages should display after being read by the Maximo user.  If you have an environment with APAR IV83313 corrected and this property set to 0, then the Bulletin Board icon on the top black bar will still indicate that new messages exist even when all messages have been read.  In the image below you still see a "2" beside the Bulletin Board icon even though the messages have been viewed.

However, if you have the PMBBISTRACKED system property set to 1 then the Bulletin Board icon displays as expected.

In the image above the user initially had 2 new messages but has now viewed one.  The Bulletin Board icon shows correctly one unread message.

Then if the user views his second message then the message count in the header disappears as there are no longer any unread messages for this user.  So now with the most recent 7.6 releases and the PMBBISTRACKED system property set correctly,  the Bulletin Board message count will update in real time.
