Abstract
Support for Maximo Anywhere RFID tag readers

Hi there, I'm Naeem Khawar from the Level 2 Maximo Support team and this Blog is about RFID support in Maximo Anywhere 7.5 and 7.6.
We have requirements to support RFID on Maximo Anywhere, but it is not currently available out-of-the-box and so you would need to do some customisation to integrate RFID readers with the Anywhere apps. For that reason, we do not have any documentation on enabling RFID. There is also, at the time of writing, no documentation on what devices are supported.
Recently I was prompted to look into RFID support in Maximo 7.6 by a customer PMR. I reached out to Anywhere Development and was directed to the product architect for RFID and asked whether the clients Bluetooth RFID tag reader was supported or not. The client was having issues getting their RFID reader to pick up data, it was just not scanning anything and demonstrated that when the RFID reader was used directly, outside of the Maximo Anywhere application, it worked and successfully picked up scan results.
I was advised that currently, IBM Maximo Anywhere 7.5 and 7.6 products only support Bluetooth RFID tag reader with HID profile.
Details on how to enable / setup HID profile on a device is provided by the manufacturer of the device. In some cases the manufacturer will ship the device with HID enabled.
Before considering a RFID tag reader device, it's best to first confirm whether the device is HID profile enabled by contacting the manufacturer of device and only then proceed to purchase the RFID tag reader.
IBM Maximo Support scope does not cover the setup and configuration of RFID readers, but may offer limited assistance in the troubleshooting process where applicable.
