Maximo Anywhere 7.6.3 - Enabling the Split Pane UI

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Maximo Anywhere 7.6.3 - Enabling the Split Pane UI

Body

It's been awhile since my last blog as it was a busy summer with Maximo World, vacations and other obligations which has delayed some topics I would like share regarding the latest release of Maximo Anywhere.  So over the next couple of months I hope to publish some much needed technical content along with overviews of what is new in the application.

I'm going to start this week by showing how simple it is to enable one of the latest features in Maximo Anywhere 7.6.3 which is the split pane functionality.  Anyone that has upgraded to 7.6.3 already knows there have been enhancements to the UI look and feel and usability of Maximo Anywhere, which aligns it more with the UI of the core product.  Along with this there is now another option which can be enabled for Work Execution only which allows you to display the work list on the left side of the application in a frame, then when a work order is selected the details will display on the right hand side of the application rather then opening up a completely new view. This allows you to view the entire work list as well as the details of the selected work order all on a single screen.

To enable the feature is simple,  in your Anywhere\MaximoAnywhere\apps\WorkExecution\appfeature.properties file you will see a new property.

splitpane.enabled=false

You will want to change this to splitpane.enabled=true then rebuild and redeploy the application.  Once you push out the changes to your device your screen will look like the following.

As you see above, you can select each of the work orders in your list and view the details on the same screen.   When you click in to the details screen, for example selecting the asset look up it will transition the details screen to the asset look up screen and still leave your work list open on the left to quickly change the work order if needed.   The mapping icons you see are not duplicates, the top toolbar and overflow menu is for the work list where the second is for the specific work order selected.

This won't show like this on smaller screens, device screens below 7 inches should result in the screen showing the work list as usual,  from the same Maximo Anywhere Environment the screen on a 5.7 inch phone looks like the following which provides a cleaner layout which is easier to read on smaller devices even though split pane is enabled.

Well that's all for today, I hope to follow up with more blogs on some of the other features and enhancements when it comes to Maximo Anywhere.  If you have any questions or comments regarding the above functionality, or anything else Anywhere related please feel free to post below.
