Abstract
Excluding user-defined attributes when duplicating records
Body
If you ever use the duplicate record action such as "Duplicate Work Order" in the Work Order Tracking application, then you may
find the following information on how to exclude user-defined attributes when duplicating a record in Maximo helpful.
Starting in Maximo version 7.5.0.3 there is a way to configure Database Configuration to exclude user-defined attributes
when duplicating records. Please note that this is only for user-defined attributes and not for out of the box attributes.
You can tell user-defined attributes in Database Configuration as they have the "User Defined?" option checked. Prior to
this there was no way to specify what attributes you wanted to exclude when duplicating a record.
Launch Database Configuration and select an object on which you want to specify user-defined data to exclude when duplicating a record.
Next click on Select Action and then 'Exclude Attribute Data' and this will bring up a window that shows your user-defined attributes for that
object, if any. Then select the attributes that you want to exclude for this object. You can also optionally specify conditions when attributes
are skipped by specifying a value in the Condition field. In this example I have two user-defined attributes and I chose the Quickupdate
attribute to be excluded.
Now if you go to your Work Order Tracking application and select an existing record that has values for both Condition and Quickupdate attributes,
and you use the Duplicate Work Order action, then the Quickupdate attribute value will not be copied into the new Work Order. This feature is helpful
if you have a user-defined attribute that should not be copied to any new records created by duplicating a record. If you specify that user-defined attributes be skipped for an object then the skip values also apply to the object views.
