Abstract

Downloading Doclinks on Chrome Saves Automatically

Body

On IE11 when you download a doclink you are offered an option to either save it or open it. Is this option available on Google Chrome?

The answer is NO.

Chrome behaves differently compared to IE11, by default it saves most
of the downloaded files and there is no option to open or save. This is
how chrome is created and we can't change it.

Some files are opened by Chrome automatically due to plugins embedded in
it, an example of which are PDF files.

You can either have chrome download and save the files all the time or you can
have it always open them by doing the instructions below; either way we
can't have it behave like IE to provide an option to select either we
open or we save a document.

1.Download the file type that you want opened automatically in the
Chrome browser.
2.You should see it displayed in the downloads bar at the bottom of the
page.
3.When it completes, click on the small arrow icon next to it and
select the "always open files of this type" option.
