Can I reference passwords on my communication templates?

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Can I reference passwords on my communication templates?

Body

You have been asked to provide a notification that goes out to new users after their User account has been created that includes both their Username and Password.

You've been able to check the MAXUSER object and tried in a Communication Template to include the username, but when you try to reference the user's password, it shows up as empty in the message.  Is there something you need to do in order to be able to include the password in the communication template?

NOTE :  Yes, you are aware of the Password Reset functionality and the PW_RESET communication template. But you are looking for though, a way to e-mail users their credentials, along with a series of in-house training materials and documentation when their account is FIRST created.  You want to keep the Password Reset template as-is, but have an additional mechanism for triggering an
initial e-mail that includes it as well.

Well, actually there is no standard functionality in the main Maximo product which would allow this kind of operation, since the passwords are encrypted in the database, and even if you were able to include the password attribute value in an email notification, the information would be encrypted. If this was possible in the standard Maximo processes, it would be considered some violation to the security policy and rules, since any user would be able to receive password info from other users.

Thanks
