Are the target dates for your SLA not calculating as expected? The setup of your calendars and shifts plays an important part in calculating the target dates for SLA.
Take a look at this new post and have it everything running smoothly.
As I usually test some Maximo Upgrade scenarios for some different products and releases, I am bringing today another tip when performing upgrades from Major Versions (6.x to 7.1.x or 7.1.x to 7.5.x).
This tip is related to the order of installation of the Industry Solutions/add-ons in the step of preparation for the upgrade process. To be clear, you have to understand that it is just a step of the whole upgrade process, which you can learn fully by reading the Upgrade Guide ).
If you are upgrading your... [More]
For Tuesday's action: Migrating a Maximo server, Part Three.
Did I say a Quick Active Directory integration setup? Yes. My Maximo 7.1 server uses LDAP security with Microsoft Active Directory 2008. Users and groups are synchronized with LDAPSYNC.
So, out of necessity, when I migrated my Maximo server I created an LDAP integration setup document, based on my very simple setup. I have fleshed it the steps below. I hope it is helpful for administratorssetting up their first LDAP integration. (More... [More]
When Maximo for Transportation and Maximo Asset Configuration Manager are installed together, their features and applications complement each other but might, in certain scenarios, also cause confusion about the best practice for primarily managing certain assets in one product instead of the other product. We have created a short video to outline some of the features introduced in the 7.5.1 release of both products to help users avoid potentially confusing situations.
Check it out here !

Monday's work: Migrating a Maximo server, Part Two.
Yesterday's list looks really neat, doesn't it? I revised yesterday's list of to-do's extensively, in light of what actually happened during the migration. For one, I had to keep checking where I was storing my databases. I created a diagram on my white board to keep them all straight. Listed below are the databases and instances affected by the move. The new server is called MAXNC3082 .
What happened on Friday: Migrating a Maximo server, Part One.
I have a bit of an advantage with this migration. My source and target servers are ideally suited for each other: they have the same operating system and bitness - Windows s008 R2 64-bit.
What's moving :
one Oracle database server with three databases: max62, max71, sccd75
one WebSphere 188.8.131.52 server with four Application servers: max62server, max62SQLserver, max71server, RMIregistry
one Maximo... [More]
My group's infrastructure manager (let's call him Jon) Sametimed me the other day, and asked when I'd be able to give up my desktop server.
My physical server is an old ThinkCentre, 8 GB RAM, Windows 2008 Server, Maximo 7.1, Oracle 11g. This server has been good for me over the past five years. No matter how many times it lost power, it came up like a champ. Sometimes I had to turn on the Oracle Listener, but that's all part of doing the job. Then there was the time the hard drive just up and died. But I had a backup, and... [More]
ATK AeroSpace, a producer of rocket propulsion systems and a supplier of military and commercial aircraft structures, used the Mobile Informer system within Maximo to provide a mobile Maximo solution for their field staff.
This became necessary because of the need to manage and monitor their work more efficiently. However, the challenges were many. They included monitoring work between disparate locations, the need to handle resistance to change stemming from a comfort level with the existing processes and providing access... [More]
Dynamic Scheduling were introduced in Maximo Scheduler 7.5.2 release
That allow clients identify new emergency work that has entered the schedule. Alert the user that emergency work has been found and that there are resources identified that are available to be assigned. Allow the user to choose an appropriate available resource or optionally make the assignments automatically.
Users can configure what constitutes an 'Emergency' work order within their environment.
An example bringing Emergency Work... [More]
As I was recently speaking to a customer, it dawned on me that this customer was suffering from the same issue that other customers have expressed. This was the frustration of not knowing the process of escalating a PMR. Navigating the IBM waters at time can be confusing to a new customer as IBM has myriads of products and product families that we support. Each one with its own set of support sub-processes and procedures. But fear not, the answer to this dilemma is very simple.
Within the IBM Software Support Handbook you... [More]
Recently we got a customer complained some UI interactions in Maximo 75 are too slow. We went to the customer's lab and did some tests, with HttpWatch/Firebug, we found the slow page response time is most from the response content receiving, not from the server side. In the customer scenario, they used signature option for most of the incidents in 'INCIDENT' application, and then they got a big size (more than 400 KB) of response content when switching the records. Through their poor network, the response content receiving time is... [More]
After posting my last blog ' What you always wanted to know about hotfixes... ', our L3 (Level 3) manager sent me some really excellent and detailed information about the definition and attributes of Fixpacks, Interim Fixes and Limited Availability fixes. I want to share this information with you here:
Fixpacks are deliveries of product defect fixes that are put through a full development release cycle and the largest amount of QA testing of all maintenance. The... [More]
They are not for everyone. Some people cringe or run away quickly when seeing them – while others embrace the beauty of these amazing succulent plants.
Likewise, the new Maximo Business Intelligence (BI) Packs introduced here are not intended for every user in your environment. Its functionality targets a specific segment of your users. And giving this tool to that segment of users will enable them to dynamically and efficiently analyze Maximo data.
As detailed in these BiLogs earlier, we often place... [More]
A common issue when we are extending maximo objects using java classes is the absence of proper extension information in your product xml. This file tells not only which maximo objects we are extending but it can also be used to point maximo installation - updatedb - to the proper database change scripts (dbc) that will install your product. Usually, it is even common to ignore such xml when customizing maximo and, in place of it, make usage of Migration Manager to "install" your product objects, including structural changes in... [More]
Maximo uses the Java ICU4J library to calculate date operations, for example, the preview window when showing dates in the future for Crontask. If this library is not up to date the calculations might be off by an hour when Daylight Savings Time begin or end. The application servers have their own versions of these libraries as well which can cause similar behavior if they are not up to date or not the same version. This is most noticeable when you have the server in one timezone and the user is registered for another.
There is a tool... [More]
