I'd like to start my first blog entry by introducing myself.  My name is Mario Travers and I'm one of the team leads for the Maximo EAM Support group.  I've been working with Maximo now for over 8 years (might actually be longer than that but my memory isn't what it once was) in various roles within in support for IBM and, previous to my old companies' acquisition by IBM, at MRO Software.  Throughout my time here I've been lucky enough to be involved with many great projects within the support team... Beware of the legacy SQL Server system property mxe.db.rowcount

    RachelJarvie 270003D8PQ | | Visits (4898)

The mxe.db.rowcount property is an optional system property in Maximo for SQL Server databases.  This property is a setting on the jdbc driver to limit the number of rows affected by a transact-sql statement. The property was added to help prevent row locking that some customers encountered in releases prior to 7.1. Use the mxe.db.rowcount property with caution because users may not be aware of the e ffects of this setting. The setting of rowcount causes most transact-sql statements to stop processing when the number of affected rows is... [More]

Application Development: Event Handling in the User Interface Framework

    scottsd 2000003CK1 | | Visits (9670)

Are you an application developer of a Maximo product? Before you configure the user interfaces and applications within Maximo to meet your end users requirements, it is important to understand which events are sent to the the user interface framework when your users interact with application widgets. Then you need to understand the ways the user interface framework can "handle" these events. Grasp these two concepts about how out-of-the-box applications respond to events and you will be much more effective at customizing the user... [More]

Maximo ACM and Component Life Accounting

    LeeCotton 2700038G0X | | Comment (1) | Visits (8877)

One of the key features of Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) is its ability to dynamically calculate the life (meter totals) of any asset. Meter values can be derived and viewed for any point in time in the history of the assets life cycle. This "active life cycle accounting" provides improved compliance for regulated industries, while helping to increase reliability and accountability. The calculation itself incorporates the configuration history of an asset. Ie where it has been installed and between what dates and is derived... [More]

Having trouble creating a view by joining 2 objects?

    RachelJarvie 270003D8PQ | | Comment (1) | Visits (9847)

In the Database Configuration application have you ever tried to join two objects to create a view using the 'Join to object' field and received the error When you use the 'Join to object' field, the application will try to find matching attributes in the 'Extends object' and the 'Join to object' objects and will automatically update the 'View where' field. So why do you receive this error when you know both objects have the attribute assetnum? This is because the rules we use to determine how to join the... [More]

Despite ever increasing 3G and 4G network coverage, as well as Wi-Fi access, it is surprising the amount of mobile workers that need to carry out work in Maximo offline. Sometimes these workers do not have access to information resources that they need to help them carry out their tasks. Did you know that you can create PDFs of Maximo information content to view offline? Aside from mobile workers, we have learned from our customers that some workers prefer hard copies of the information that they require and the option to create and print PDFs... [More]

Ability to view Multiple Markers on a Map in Maximo Scheduler 7.5.1

    LisaStuckless 270002SGT8 | | Comment (1) | Visits (8162)

New mapping capabilities were introduced in Scheduler 7.5.1 that allow clients to view assets, locations, tickets and work orders on a Google, Bing or Spatial map within Maximo. By default when you go into these applications you see only one marker in the Map tab based on the main record.  This functionality then leads to the question ‘How do I view multiple markers on a map?” The Map Control in the Scheduler product is available in Application Designer.  Using the control properties along with a data source, the ability... How to view logging information inside Websphere application server

    CamilaSoaresBelmonte 270001TWGY | | Visits (67770)

Sometimes we have an application that is server-based and it crashes when you start the application server or throws an error or warning during execution. The only way to fix it is to get into the log of the error. Looking at web console's log is a simpler technique that requires less setup than a remote session to the server! If your application server is the IBM Websphere, where can you get it?   Here are the steps: 1. Log into the application server (E.g. http://localhost:9060/ibm/console) 2. In the left toolbar,...
