How to develop a BIRT report to correctly print both in PDF and HTML
Depending on how BIRT reports were developed, they may look fine on screen (HTML), but can be displayed in a different way when they are exported to or printed using PDF. A simple approach can be used so that BIRT reports will look the same on screen and when they print in PDF. This approach follows: 1) After a new report is created by clicking on File -> New -> Report, select all the report containers (table, grids, etc) and on their layout tab, select the Property Editor tab, Properties sub tab and the General option as per figure 1... BiLog: Explore Mornings…Reviewing custom reports for Report Upgrade to 371
With the sun warming his speckled skin, and in anticipation of his breakfast of insects, Leroy loves mornings. And similar to One Eyed Al , and the odd ostrich, I’m a member of their pack loving mornings and the explorations the day holds. Today, let’s explore another component of the Report Upgrade. In this previous BiLog entry , the impact the report upgrade to version 371 in Maximo 7503 could have on your custom reports was detailed. But how do you know what reports may be impacted? Depending on the... [More]

Updated Migration Manager Redbook available
In my experience as a software engineer, the value of an IBM Redbook in software design, implementation and maintenance can never be overemphasized. I started using Redbooks as reference material in my development projects back in the 90s. Learning and applying techniques and best practices always helped me deliver quality software to my customers on time. Back then I couldn't have imagined I would be part of a Redbook authors team! Time has moved on and I am really happy to share with all of you the link to the updated Migration Manager... [More]

Maximo Integration - Considerations for continuous queue based scenarios
Transaction processing associated with Maximo integration scenarios involving a high number of external systems, might not necessarily be the optimum when working with a SINGLE continuous queue. Application server’s queue configuration values will be driven by the largest common denominator that addresses the transactional needs of ALL external systems. Are you aware that is possible to specify to each external system in your integration scenario a dedicated continuous queue? By configuring Maximo’s integration framework continuous queue... [More]

BiLog: Explore....Report Upgrade to 371!
Last week I showed you my cubicle . This week, I used one of my favorite tools – my Magic 8 Ball – to see if I should show you more, and received ‘Reply Hazy’ in return. Okay…I’ll follow its guidance and hold for now. But what I do want to share today is more information on Report Upgrading. When Maximo 7.5.0.3 was initially released, we noted that it included an upgrade to BIRT 3.7.1 . If you were using a previous version of Maximo (and hence a lower version of BIRT) we recommended report upgrade best practices which included backup... [More]

BiLog: Explore...Crystal Report Option
This is my cubicle where I work. If I was good at directions , I could tell you it is located in the north-east corner of the second floor of Building 1 in Littleton. But for now, I’ll tell you its nestled in the corner of the building by beautiful pine trees. Maybe next week – we’ll explore inside In the meanwhile, let’s explore something different this week. As we’ve talked about, Maximo has an Open reporting architecture, where we enable and encourage you to use your reporting tool... [More]
