I have a love-hate relationship with office printers. Our relationship flourishes when I remember its access code, and my printout waits patiently for me to pick it up. But our relationship plummets, when I hear beep…beep…beep, and the words ‘printer jam’ display. As I loudly disassemble the printer’s drawers and toner cartridge in a fruitless search of a mangled crumb of paper, my frustration and choice of vocabulary skyrockets.
You may also have a complex relationship with... [More]
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Maximo, in some environments the MAXLOGGER.PARENTLOGGERID of BIRT report loggers does not execute correctly. In these cases, if the loggers are enabled and the application server is restarted - but still the Report SQLs do not appear in the log - then execute the following sql. select logger, logkey, maxloggerid, parentloggerid from maxlogger where logkey in ('log4j.logger.maximo.report', 'log4j.logger.maximo.report.birt','log4j.logger.maximo.report.birt.sql') The result of the SQL will be... When disasters like the massive earthquake earlier this year in Japan, or the deadly earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010, people and organizations from all over the world work together to help and rebuild these devastated areas. I am very lucky to have the opportunity to help locally by rebuilding houses for people in need through Habitat for Humanity. This weekend I worked with an amazing team of individuals, including power company employees, a school teacher, a housewife, a retired architect, and high school teenagers, in rebuilding a... [More]

Are you constantly dealing with failed deployment situations
due to configuration content differences between your various Maximo instances

Three words that bring us back to spunky Clara Peller as she questioned the location of the burger on the Fluffy Bun in the infamous Wendy's Restaurant Commercials . While many Bilog entries do touch on food and their relationships to reporting -- including chocolate buffets yoohoo drink products and brownies ….today’s Bilog will detail how to find the beef of the reporting where – and apply it back to Maximo applications. The Maximo Where is one of the key attributes of reporting. It is the primary determinant of your report’s... [More]
A best practice of User Interface design is to only show the information that a particular user cares about. To quote from Jakob Nielsen : "Dialogues should not contain information which is irrelevant or rarely needed. Every extra unit of information in a dialogue competes with the relevant units of information and diminishes their relative visibility." Showing only the information that your users care about can greatly increase their productivity and reduce your support and administrative costs. For example, you might want the... [More]

One of the key features of Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) is its ability to dynamically calculate the life (meter totals) of any asset.
Meter values can be derived and viewed for any point in time in the history of the assets life cycle. This "active life cycle accounting" provides improved compliance for regulated industries, while helping to increase reliability and accountability.
The calculation itself incorporates the configuration history of an asset. Ie where it has been installed and between what dates... [More]
Sometimes it is required for child work orders to inherit one parent status (for example APPR) while not inheriting another (for example, INPRG) all in one transaction. For example, one may want to take a work order hierarchy where all members are WAPPR and have the parent status change to INPRG while the children only move to APPR. This can be accomplished by leveraging Maximo’s workflow capabilities. Click the following link to learn more: Controlling mixed work order status inheritance via workflow
