Coming in on a Monday morning after a great Red Sox win over
the Yankees last night…I can’t help wonder what is the biggest team win you’re
recently experienced. Was it the 2004
Red Sox World Series Championship? Or maybe a political lobby you have been
involved with for something like the approvals of Wind Turbines? Or maybe something simpler like your child’s music,
baseball, or lacrosse team win this weekend?
One of the biggest team wins I’ve recently been involved
with is with the release of our latest software, Maximo... [More]
I want to share some of my real world customer support cases from my role at IBM as a Level 2 Support Engineer. A former manager of mine used to interview candidates for technical support jobs by asking them, "Are you running FROM something, or are you running TO something?". There are many good answers to this question, but I've always considered myself to be running TO my various positions in technical client support. I believe that my job is to help other people do THEIR jobs. I want to use this forum to... [More]
The Challenge : Planning packages of work can provide a number of challenges, particularly for transportation type assets where the dynamic nature of the assets operations means that the asset may not be where it is supposed to be!! Maintenance facilities are resourced based on carrying out a range of maintenance tasks, they know that for a given time period they will be maintaining an asset from the fleet (or a third party client) but not necessarily which specific asset it will be, to a certain extent they do not care which asset it will... Single, Married or It's Complicated. Those are a few of the eleven choices Facebook gives us to define our Relationship Status. With V7 Reporting, we've made it easier to define your maxrelationships by offering you two clear maxrelationship types - simple and complex . In a http://ibm.co/j5e5av earlier this year, ROS (Report Object Structures and maxrelationships were discussed. ROS were highlighted as the building blocks of Version 7's Ad hoc reporting tool, QBR (Query Based Reporting). The ROS provide a collection of the... [More]

From maximo version 22.214.171.124+, a new feature was introduced, called asset topology, which is to visually demonstrate the user-defined relationships between the assets stored in the maximo database. Here is what asset topology looks like:
How To Setup Topology?
Now that you have... [More]
As the building blocks to Version 7’s Ad hoc reporting tool,
QBR (Query Based Reporting), Report Object Structures (ROS) enable you to select fields
from multiple categories (objects) for your ad hoc reports. Additionally, ROS enable you to visualize application
categories and their parent/child relationships. These categories are displayed via a category
tree drilldown in the Select Tab of the QBR window in the top left hand
Depending on the products you are licensed for, you will
receive over 20 ROS out of the box.... [More]
With the added security features and functions available in TPAE/Maximo version 7 configuring your security to work just the way you want it can be extremely complex and time consuming. Once you get it configured in dev/test you then need to move it to production – you don’t want to start from scratch. Fortunately, Migration Manager comes with some pre-defined object structures and a migration group to facilitate this. There are some important considerations to help you be successful. The APPSECURITY Migration Group is dependent on other... [More]
There's some intermediate resource required by Oracle database to execute sql statements. One among them is Oracle Temporary Table Space when pure-in-memory operations could not be performed due to resource limitation or specific execution plan. As Oracle doc says:"A temporary tablespace contains transient data that persists only for the duration of the session". So likely, if you have many things produced in the middle of query, you will probably need a temporary space to put such intermediate stuff in. Before we start to discuss... [More]
Do you send postcards when you travel? Our family has a yearly competition to see who can send the best postcard, and I’m currently in the lead, with a postcard sent from here – the littlest post office in the United States. This postcard to the left is one of my favorites - sent back in June 1912, from the Rocky River in Cleveland, Ohio to one of my relatives in Buffalo, New York. Don’t wait to send those postcards whether you are traveling for vacation or for work – and also don’t wait to upgrade to Maximo 7503 with its incredible... [More]
Do you have a pair of these on your desk? Even if yours aren’t fire engine red with cubic zirconia sparkles…glasses enable us to see things more clearly.
Likewise, the Maximo Business Intelligence (BI) Packs enable you to view Maximo data in a much clearer format.
Frequently, your users export the results of an application query to Microsoft Excel to view and analyze Maximo data. However, as shown here, the results of that data can be overwhelming, and tedious... [More]

I drive a 2006 Silver Honda Pilot. While that may be meaningless to many, my words did generate laughter at the Honda Plant in Marysville, Ohio on Tuesday, May 22nd. I was fortunate to be at the Honda Plant, who was hosting nearly 100 Clients, Business Partners and IBMers for the Maximo Manufacturing User Group Meeting . Honda was an amazing host for the User Group meeting, and started the day by welcoming us to their facility, which will be celebrating its 30th anniversary later this year. Honda kicked off the conference with... [More]
Sometimes it is required for child work orders to inherit one parent status (for example APPR) while not inheriting another (for example, INPRG) all in one transaction. For example, one may want to take a work order hierarchy where all members are WAPPR and have the parent status change to INPRG while the children only move to APPR. This can be accomplished by leveraging Maximo’s workflow capabilities. Click the following link to learn more: Controlling mixed work order status inheritance via workflow
