In Maximo Inventory Insights, we develop the product according to the software design practice of continuous delivery. This means we can rapidly, reliably and repeatedly release feature enhancements and bug fixes to clients at low risk and at regular intervals. Since we released back in March, we have released several feature enhancements that you might not be aware of.
Here's a quick summary of what we've been working on.
You can quickly identify inventory items by... [More]
This post will cover some of the same ground as a series I published last year . Those postings went into depth on setting up a new WebSphere Application server, database server, and setting up application server security with LDAP, but didn't go into much depth about doing the WebSphere application server "migration". using the term migration is misleading--I am recreating the Maximo application server on a new server.
I decided recently that I need to re-image the Windows server that hosts four of... [More]

When defining an alphanumeric attribute for a MBO (let's call it MYDESCRIPTION ), the database configuration application permits a long version by checking the "Long Description Owner?" flag. At saving time, Maximo automatically adds a new attribute linked to the alphanumeric attribute: its name is automatically set to the source attribute name plus the _LONGDESCRIPTION suffix (so for the previous example the long description attribute will be MYDESCRIPTION _ LONGDESCRIPTION ) and the Maximo type is automatically set to LONGALN .... Out of Memory condition could occur when deploying ear file in Websphere console or when running Maximo 7.5
Additional configuration from Websphere is needed to avoid getting error: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space in the log.
Open the WebSphere Application Server administration site by typing http://hostname:port/ibm/console .
The port is the number of the HTTP administrative port, which is 9060 by default. Type an ID (any ID without a password) and log in to it.

A tale of a hero - IBM Support Assistant ( ISA ) Team Server 5 and his sidekick (that would be me)
and of a villain - RC=13
It all started one wet and miserable morning in a small dark room in a place not so very far away. Disaster had struck as my server had just run out of memory. What could I do. Where could I turn. I had heard tales of a... [More]
As any long time application user in Maximo knows, status changes can be unforgiving at times. Change a record to a status that causes it to go into history too soon and it's problems. Status changes in Maximo always tend to call huge amounts of logic to be executed when a change happens and reverting back is not always that easy. For instance, when a work order is changed to closed from approved, the logic called is huge. Checks are done against the inventory table, PO tables, Labor tables just to mention a few. A historied record... [More]

After working supporting Maximo for the past 9 years I have started posting to share some of what I have learned. In my time here I have spoken to so many different kinds of Maximo users, from the super advanced, to the user who is seeing it for the first time. My hopes are to share my knowledge, have people see the product in a different way and to spark conversation about the versatile software called Maximo.
Sometimes I wonder, automatic or manual, which is better. I say that anything we can automate let's do it... [More]
I helped a customer today to access part of the Maximo help system. He had installed a new product and could not see the help screens for them "The topic that you have requested is not available." This meant that Maximo application help properly pointed to the topic, but the topic files were unavailable in the deployed help ear. The rest of the Maximo help system worked fine.
This told me that he had installed and deployed the Maximo application (maximo.ear), but had not built and deployed the updated Maximo help... [More]
