Last week I had a customer request if it was possible to create a Hyperlink within the header area of the Maximo/SCCD Start Center to access an external URL. I was already aware of similar ways to utilize Hyperlinks within Maximo, for example:
Adding a Hyperlink to a Custom Field ( Click here )
Launch in Context from a Hyperlink ( Click here )
However, the methods above were not exactly feasible for my customer's needs. Knowing the existing buttons within the header (Go To, Sign Out, Help, etc) were... [More]
Now that we've looked at what linear assets are and a case study for their use.........
We know that linear assets.....
Are defined by length
Can accurately depict assets that are defined by their length
Length of assets impact maintenance and work against the assets
They have start and end points that are defined by units of measure
Can be broken down into defined segments and reference points
Because of these unique characteristics, linear assets can... [More]
I'm back again this week with part 2 of my three part series on linear assets. Today we'll take a closer look at a usage case and see how the functionality of linear assets can make life much easier for you....
Here's the scenario:
- A public works department for a US state is responsible for the maintenance and repairs on a local highway
- Dispatcher and Planners need to easily define and direct work crews to very specific segments of the highway that needs repairs
- Features,... [More]
You may have installed Maximo Anywhere recently and you chose to use the full version of WebSphere as your application server over WebSphere Liberty Profile or Apache. When going through the install screens you may have noticed you can't change the appcenteradmin password from the install panels. Have you ever wondered where this user is stored? How to change the password for appcenteradmin? Or even create another user? If so continue to read further.
The first part is understanding where this user is created and stored. The Worklight... [More]
Just yesterday, I came home from a trip to Park City, Utah. If you've never been to Park City, I would suggest you add it to your bucket list. Park City is a beautiful mountainside community approximately 30 miles southeast of Salt Lake City. The home to the Sundance Film Festival and the Kimball Arts Festival, Park City was the also the host site of the 2002 Winter Olympics. It lies close to the Wasatch National Forest with it's stunning scenery and locales (Mirror Lake is my personal favorite). And lest I not forget the purpose of... [More]

Are you interested in learning more about Maximo mobility options and Maximo Anywhere? In this blog F ive considerations for building mobile solutions for IBM Maximo , I cover some common factors to be considered when defining your mobility solution for Maximo, including:
Portability to different mobile devices
Usability and fit to purpose
Configurability and Extensability
This will show you how to add a toolbar button for an Automation script. I have included a “dummy” script that does not do much,
it is just to show you how to add a toolbar button to an application.
Create the script.
First go to Automation Scripting and create a new Action Launch Point.
For this purpose, I called my Launch Point MYSCRIPT and left the Action to MYSCRIPT as well.
Notice that I picked ASSET for my object, I plan to add this button to the Asset Application. I then select a name for my... [More]
Once in a while I'll get questions about performance problems. Specific scenarios can be resolved by applying Interim Fixes or adding indexes. Those critical and urgent problems often happen throughout the entire system.
Here is a collection of performance related recordings and technotes that might help:

I want to share some of my real world customer support cases from my role at IBM as a Level 2 Support Engineer. A former manager of mine used to interview candidates for technical support jobs by asking them, "Are you running FROM something, or are you running TO something?". There are many good answers to this question, but I've always considered myself to be running TO my various positions in technical client support. I believe that my job is to help other people do THEIR jobs. I want to use this forum to... [More]
So you and your team are ready to make the leap on to the next release of Maximo or SCCD but, there is that looming concern about what is going to happen when you flip the "ON" switch on your go-live date. Will it work? Will performance be acceptable? or will you have to find a safe house to hide from the angry mob of users that can not use the system? You are not alone. Those are the type of questions that keep every Project Manager and System Implementer up at night.
Through collaboration with some of our... [More]
