All email messages have or should have a content-type header field which will determine how that email is handled. The Email Listener is not a true, full service email client and is therefore not as flexible and forgiving as email clients [such as Notes & Outlook] in handling the full range of email formats. The purpose of this article is to set the expectations for what content-types the listener will process. Note that the content-type type attribute of an email is distinct from character set which denotes how text for... [More]

Importing data is supported by standard Maximo Integration Framework as well as different tools from the business partner landscape.
In a past PoC I was forced to import massive data with bad quality, agile data structures (implies changing data structures from day to day) and last but not least pay regard on what was already imported into Maximo. Let me share my experience on how we did it.
Most of the mentioned tools using an approach of a 1:1 import of data, means you have to take care of data quality before you start import.... [More]
Today I am going to provide a workaround to avoid a common error that I usually face when testing Maximo Upgrade scenarios on DB2 databases. If you missed my previous "Maximo Upgrade Tips" entries, check them through this link .
One of the common errors that can happen during an upgrade of Maximo Base Services from versions 7.1.x to 7.5.x on DB2 databases is related with the application heap size configuration parameter of the database - applheapsz , usually set by default as 1024 or 2048 depending of what where... [More]

When connection settings is activated, mobile device users can switch between two
instances of Worklight® Server without having to rebuild and deploy the apps.
By default, connection settings is not activated, but it can be activated in the
build.properties file. Activating connection settings can produce unexpected
results in the work order list. When you switch to a new instance of Worklight
Server, and if the application data was not cleared, work orders from the previous
instance and the new instance of Worklight... [More]
When defining an alphanumeric attribute for a MBO (let's call it MYDESCRIPTION ), the database configuration application permits a long version by checking the "Long Description Owner?" flag. At saving time, Maximo automatically adds a new attribute linked to the alphanumeric attribute: its name is automatically set to the source attribute name plus the _LONGDESCRIPTION suffix (so for the previous example the long description attribute will be MYDESCRIPTION _ LONGDESCRIPTION ) and the Maximo type is automatically set to LONGALN .... As any long time application user in Maximo knows, status changes can be unforgiving at times. Change a record to a status that causes it to go into history too soon and it's problems. Status changes in Maximo always tend to call huge amounts of logic to be executed when a change happens and reverting back is not always that easy. For instance, when a work order is changed to closed from approved, the logic called is huge. Checks are done against the inventory table, PO tables, Labor tables just to mention a few. A historied record... [More]
I helped a customer today to access part of the Maximo help system. He had installed a new product and could not see the help screens for them "The topic that you have requested is not available." This meant that Maximo application help properly pointed to the topic, but the topic files were unavailable in the deployed help ear. The rest of the Maximo help system worked fine.
This told me that he had installed and deployed the Maximo application (maximo.ear), but had not built and deployed the updated Maximo help... [More]
