Sometimes you are working with Maximo and then you need to troubleshoot or have a better look at some specific event or process that is failing or not working as expected. Your next step would be to check for what kind of failing event that is, and then try to find its associated classname in order to start your investigation about what the issue could be related to.
This applies to when you are testing a customization, or monitoring Maximo behavior even when the core classes are in place. But the current standard... [More]
Many clients uses the email as login id and they ask how to configure their LDAP authentication using the email instead of using the UID. So I have decided to write the steps that needs to be configured using WebSphere and Maximo. This can be used for both Microsoft Active Directory (MSAD) or Tivoli Directory Server (TDS). Assuming that you already have configured the LDAP authentication in a working stage and you only need to login as email.
From the WebSphere Console, Expand Security in the left hand frame and click on Global... [More]

The next release of IBM Maximo Asset Management is arriving soon!
Come learn how our Enterprise Asset Management solution offers more capability with powerful analytics, embedded mobility and a refreshed user experience.
Maximo administrators can't wait to get their hands on the new release with its new technologies for installation, continued serviceability updates and an updated platform support matrix.
When using RFID to audit assets at a location can be done using Maximo Mobile 7.5.1. How can this be done? Can I see who did the audit and when?
The first thing you need to do is associate the RFID Tag to the assets. This is done using the attribute MOBRFIDTAG attribute on the asset object.
1) Go To Application Designer
2) Open the Asset application
3) Add a new Text box to the screen
4) In the Text Box Properties add MOBRFIDTAG to the Attribute field
"I just have a quick, basic functionality question, can you help me?"
Yes we can, and here's where we keep the answers...

Sometimes you might have a question that you think is pertaining to basic product functionality, but you don't want to go through the process of entering a PMR and then waiting to ask one of our support engineers directly, through that channel. There is a faster way to get many of the answers to these... [More]
It's been a bit since my last entry in this series, so I thought I'd take some time this morning to finish off this tutorial on configuring a basic horizontal cluster. If you haven't read my previous posts, you can jump over to Part 1: WebSphere Configuration and Part 2: JMS Configuration .
In this final portion of the three part series, we will go over the following topics.
Creating the Virtual Host
Assigning Names to JVM's
Building and Deploying ear files
Today I am going to provide a workaround to avoid a common error that I usually face when testing Maximo Upgrade scenarios on DB2 databases. If you missed my previous "Maximo Upgrade Tips" entries, check them through this link .
One of the common errors that can happen during an upgrade of Maximo Base Services from versions 7.1.x to 7.5.x on DB2 databases is related with the application heap size configuration parameter of the database - applheapsz , usually set by default as 1024 or 2048 depending of what where... [More]
Hello Everyone, For those who are using Spatial and are also using Oracle, this is a very important update for you!
An Oracle Critical Patch Update(CPU) was recently released on October 14th, 2014. If this is installed on your Oracle Database, connections to Oracle DB can crash ArcGIS.
This issue only affects Oracle users. All versions of ArcGIS are impacted by this CPU.
· If you have not yet installed the patch listed above, do not install it , per Esri's recommendation.
· If you have installed the patch... [More]

Recently I encountered a Maximo user who requested for a report parameter lookup to be added to a BIRT Report request page. Not just any parameter, but an unbound Location(s) parameter lookup that was to only show and display records subject to the Location being specified on the request page. Upon initial setup of the Table Domain and simple lookups.xml modification, the goal was partially reached but the lookup was returning ALL locations and not those subject to the Table Domain.
Within our Report Development Guide(s) (... [More]
If you are a Maximo user or a Start Center manager, you probably already created a Result Set portlet on your screen.
You must have also felt a need to add columns from other tables/objects to that portlet.
If so, you probably faced this technote:
On Result Set Portlet in Maximo 7x, Adding a Dot Notation/Joined Attribute
YES, now it is working perfectly.
BUT WAIT... Something is missing here!
I cannot filter/sort the dot notation column!!!
Any customer with a large database has run into the famous preset limit of 5000 was exceeded error message. There are a few ways around this message, increasing the size of the fetch stop limit. This workaround will not always work as it is a global setting and who wants large result sets across all applications for all users. Another option is to decrease the size of the result set itself by adding further information to filter information as needed. Good option but it we don't always have the option to filter out information into... [More]
I've been working an issue with a colleague recently regarding Change Polling with the VMMSYNC cron task. When using Tivoli Directory Server there is a key step that is missing in current documentation that isn't needed with Active Directory, missing this step will prevent Change Polling from working. Before I go into the the missing piece regarding Tivoli Directory Server, I will explain a bit more what Change Polling does.
In Maximo 22.214.171.124 change polling functionality was implemented. When enabled change polling allows the... [More]
We have different technical references on Maximo Logging already published. In this post, I would like to share the following simplified procedure that we can use to create a log to troubleshoot the most of common application problems we may have.
Please keep in mind that depending on the problem, logs configured with other settings might be necessary. In addition, please consider:
- If the problem scenario is replicable in the Maximo Test environment, generate the Maximo log in the Test environment in order to avoid any impact in... [More]
