As most of you know, Maximo Mobile release 126.96.36.199 has added support to Android devices and for this reason, we updated the Maximo Mobile cookbook to assist business partners and customers to continue customizing their Maximo Mobile installations in the new platform.
The new version of the cookbook contains a simpler way to setup your development environment. The good new for BPs is that you do not need to learn Android to continue customizing the product! This is a great new and the team worked very hard to keep the existing... [More]
Content seems to be another one of those words who’s meaning has become blurred by our ever evolving technology and the need to define the work we do. The dictionary defines the plural meaning of the word content as “everything that is inside a container – example: the contents of a box”. In loose terms, you might see what we define as content in a similar way but you would have to take that definition pretty broadly. This article provides a description of challenges for content in the data world and... [More]
The domain application in Maximo is used for creating different domains in Maximo and two of these domain types enable you to validate and bring over data from other tables. This blog entry does not teach you how to use the Table and Crossover domains, rather it tells you how to get these two domains to work when looking up data from a table with Multi Language in use.
Due to the way Maximo handles Multi language functionality, you run into problems if you try to list and bring back data from a column that is Multi Language enabled. To... [More]
Do you have a pair of these on your desk? Even if yours aren’t fire engine red with cubic zirconia sparkles…glasses enable us to see things more clearly.
Likewise, the Maximo Business Intelligence (BI) Packs enable you to view Maximo data in a much clearer format.
Frequently, your users export the results of an application query to Microsoft Excel to view and analyze Maximo data. However, as shown here, the results of that data can be overwhelming, and tedious... [More]

Thinking about the US Healthcare.gov website issues, it reminded me that people don’t always know what “performance” means. When we talk about performance we think it means “slow” or, if we think about our car, maybe we think it means “it works or it doesn’t work”. Well, already we have two different definitions of performance and we haven’t really begun to look deep into it. Having 17 years of experience in the performance business, I know that performance means the end... [More]

From maximo version 188.8.131.52+, a new feature was introduced, called asset topology, which is to visually demonstrate the user-defined relationships between the assets stored in the maximo database. Here is what asset topology looks like:
How To Setup Topology?

This functionality works directly from applications.
Though it relies on the object structure component of Integration Framework but no other Integration components like Publish Channels, End Points, and JMS Queues are needed to be configured.
The application export and import is done synchronously without the use of JMS Queues.
No applications out of the box are pre-configured with import and export... [More]

In Maximo when using the ‘Find’ field in the toolbar ,if there are multiple records that can be returned, the required record may not be displayed on the screen. This is also true when searching for a PO that has revisions in Receiving application. Maximo will search only for the key that was entered and returns the first value it finds. This is standard functionality.
Note: If there are multiple records that can be returned from a ‘Find’ search, if the user selects the list tab after the... [More]

As I usually test some Maximo Upgrade scenarios for some different products and releases, I am bringing today another tip when performing upgrades from Major Versions (6.x to 7.1.x or 7.1.x to 7.5.x).
This tip is related to the order of installation of the Industry Solutions/add-ons in the step of preparation for the upgrade process. To be clear, you have to understand that it is just a step of the whole upgrade process, which you can learn fully by reading the Upgrade Guide ).
If you are upgrading your... [More]
For Tuesday's action: Migrating a Maximo server, Part Three.
Did I say a Quick Active Directory integration setup? Yes. My Maximo 7.1 server uses LDAP security with Microsoft Active Directory 2008. Users and groups are synchronized with LDAPSYNC.
So, out of necessity, when I migrated my Maximo server I created an LDAP integration setup document, based on my very simple setup. I have fleshed it the steps below. I hope it is helpful for administratorssetting up their first LDAP integration. (More... [More]
When Maximo for Transportation and Maximo Asset Configuration Manager are installed together, their features and applications complement each other but might, in certain scenarios, also cause confusion about the best practice for primarily managing certain assets in one product instead of the other product. We have created a short video to outline some of the features introduced in the 7.5.1 release of both products to help users avoid potentially confusing situations.
Check it out here !

Monday's work: Migrating a Maximo server, Part Two.
Yesterday's list looks really neat, doesn't it? I revised yesterday's list of to-do's extensively, in light of what actually happened during the migration. For one, I had to keep checking where I was storing my databases. I created a diagram on my white board to keep them all straight. Listed below are the databases and instances affected by the move. The new server is called MAXNC3082 .
What happened on Friday: Migrating a Maximo server, Part One.
I have a bit of an advantage with this migration. My source and target servers are ideally suited for each other: they have the same operating system and bitness - Windows s008 R2 64-bit.
What's moving :
one Oracle database server with three databases: max62, max71, sccd75
one WebSphere 184.108.40.206 server with four Application servers: max62server, max62SQLserver, max71server, RMIregistry
one Maximo... [More]
My group's infrastructure manager (let's call him Jon) Sametimed me the other day, and asked when I'd be able to give up my desktop server.
My physical server is an old ThinkCentre, 8 GB RAM, Windows 2008 Server, Maximo 7.1, Oracle 11g. This server has been good for me over the past five years. No matter how many times it lost power, it came up like a champ. Sometimes I had to turn on the Oracle Listener, but that's all part of doing the job. Then there was the time the hard drive just up and died. But I had a backup, and... [More]
ATK AeroSpace, a producer of rocket propulsion systems and a supplier of military and commercial aircraft structures, used the Mobile Informer system within Maximo to provide a mobile Maximo solution for their field staff.
This became necessary because of the need to manage and monitor their work more efficiently. However, the challenges were many. They included monitoring work between disparate locations, the need to handle resistance to change stemming from a comfort level with the existing processes and providing access... [More]
