You want to set up crontask parameters for the JMSQSEQCONSUMER or IFACETABLECONSUMER crontask instance so that only messages for certain enterprise services are processed by a particular crontask instance.
For example, you may want to process only workorder transactions associated with the MXWOInterface enterprise service. if you set the enterprise service name in your crontask parameters to a value that matches a valid enterprise service name but do not enter the name of an external system which hosts the... Do you follow the 3 second rule? You drop a fabulous piece of toast and you have 3 seconds to quickly pick it up from the floor and still eat it - before it becomes contaminated?
Do you also apply that same rule to metrics or reports? The information must be analyzed and understood within 3 seconds or the user discards it and moves on to the next task.
Quickly consuming BI data is a critical, increasing requirement of businesses today. Using the new Cognos BI... [More]
New properties in Maximo 7.6 have made it easier to change the way the buttons appear in the Maximo Navbar.
Depending upon your personal preference you can show the header buttons as they show in Maximo 7.5 or you
can set it to use the more modern button positioning and appearance. If you upgrade from a previous version of
Maximo then it defaults to the traditional appearance and if you have a fresh install of version 7.6 it defaults to the
modern look. The image below shows what I mean by the modern... [More]
This post describes a solution to the Locale-specific decimal separator-related problem that may cause the Inventory Options dialog to load without values. This document will be useful to you if you see the following when going to Administration > Organizations > Inventory Options > Inventory Defaults:
Out-of-box Maximo has 3 inventory-related MAXVARS that, like all MAXVARS, are stored as String values in MAXVARS.VARVALUE and MAXVARTYPE.DEFAULTVALUE. These MAXVARS,... [More]
In Maximo development, we have a cursory knowledge of email systems and we don't support configuring or troubleshooting on the other side of the JavaMail API. However, occasionally we're asked about platform specific connectivity and, occasionally, credential problems, in particular:
"javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException Logon failure unknown user name or bad password."
We have yet to encounter a case other than this meaning exactly what is says. It's a bad... [More]
So, end of March, and time to blog again. I was going to do an entry on upgrading from Maximo 18.104.22.168 to Maximo 22.214.171.124. Things didn't work out as I planned. I have 26 screen shots ready for that post (or posts), but at about screen shot 24, I realized that I had goofed. Instead of upgrading from Maximo 126.96.36.199, my upgrade database was at Maximo 188.8.131.52. That is not supposed to be upgradeable to 184.108.40.206. Rules are, follow the instructions step-by-step, and don't magically hope that the 220.127.116.11 upgrade will update my database without a... [More]
Are you having issues trying to associate multiple applications in the Go To detail menu of a specific field ?
This could be happening because of a syntax issue for when multiple application names are used in the applink property of a field.
In Application Designer, you have the option to add an application in the Go To detail button from a field, but the question here would be : Is it possible to have multiple applications in that particular Go To menu from the details button?
The answer is YES, however you... [More]
Crossover domains can be a convenient way to copy values from a parent work order to a new child when adding a child work order. In most cases this works without a problem. However, if the values being copied from parent to child include ASSETNUM, LOCATION, and/or GLACCOUNT, the crossover domain may not work as expected. This is the case if these values do not match, for example, if the ASSETNUM does not reside at the location specified by LOCATION, or if the GLACCOUNT does not match the ASSETNUM/LOCATION combination.
In my previous blog post, “How to add a Maximo related object to IBM Maximo Anywhere” , I provided an example for adding a Maximo related object into a Maximo Anywhere app user interface (UI). The example added the communications log object, which is related to the work order, to the Maximo Anywhere Work Execution app. This included:
A view to show the list of communication logs that are related to the work order.
A view to show the details of each communication log.
I have documented additional steps to... [More]
There is a bulldog on my toast. Combined with a steaming cup of coffee, its consumption is highly restricted.
You may also set up data restrictions in your Maximo environment - enabling users access to various subsets of data. Typical types of data restrictions include Organization and Site data restrictions.
Starting with Maximo 76 , new site, organization and set restrictions are applied to the metadata publishing process. This new restrictions enable that the user... [More]
Are you tired of extra clicks? Have you wondered if it was possible to skip the HTML display page and output your BIRT report directly to PDF? Well then, you've come to the right place!
In Maximo 7.5, the default is to run the report in HTML browser window, followed by outputting to PDF. However, I've found in many cases that users want the output in PDF format directly. Now, before we get technical, it is important to note that this change is not officially supported by IBM.
In order to... [More]

I took a bit of a hiatus from blogging during the month of February being out for a large portion of it at the IBM Interconnect Conference. But I'm back in the full swing of things now and want to share a bit of knowledge on Authenticating to your LDAP secured Maximo environment. This may be common knowledge to some as it is documented by other means. However for those who haven't ventured into configuring Maximo Anywhere to authenticate with LDAP, you need not worry as there isn't much to it!
To get started we have one... [More]

Have you ever wished to change the attribute that the " Find " search field looks for?

1. Go to Application Designer;

3. Do a back up of the current file and open it in a text editor;

Maximo 76 extends the BI options you have for separating report processing - allowing you a wide mix or Maximo Configurations. Starring in these new features, is BROS (BIRT Report Only Server). BROS was initially introduced as a mechanism to separate BIRT report from application processing for improved performance, load balancing... [More]
Sometimes an admin needs to make some changes or maybe even to test some changes in their Maximo system and needs to prevent the 'normal' users from accessing the system, potentially corrupting the data during the config or testing and generally making a nuisance of themselves ( or working , as they like to call it ).
There is a function called Admin Mode available in Maximo and this can be set up to allow one or more Administrative users to access the system locally while preventing... [More]

New to Maximo 7.6!
You can now view information that is related to the main record of the result set.
For example, you can now display the first and last name of the owner of an
incident, instead of only the UserID which may not be useful.

Many times when you plan an upgrade to the next major release of Maximo Asset Managment, one of the first questions you ask yourself is 'What will this do to my existing data and customizations?'
Today we have posted spreadsheets that detail the table and column differences between Maximo Asset Management v18.104.22.168 and v22.214.171.124, and also between v126.96.36.199 and v7.6.0 on the Maximo upgrade resources page.

I have been in Maximo Support for many years and often the question comes up what does LIFO/FIFO do?
You can define your costs on an item by item basis by changing the cost type in Inventory on that item or a default for your site in the Organization application->Select Action->Inventory Options->Inventory Costs.
In here, you can define what accounting method you want to track so that your costs reflect the standard for that item.
When you do that, the Inventory application displays a different table.
Today, I'm going to go over step by step installing an Interim Fix. At first glance, this might seem to be a minor topic. After all, we have been releasing Interim Fixes and Fix Packs for Maximo for years now. And why another long blog post for it?
It is because the process for installing Interim Fixes (and later on, Fix Packs as well) has changed significantly for Maximo 7.6.
Beginning with this Interim Fix, we are now able to take advantage of the installation technology we introduced with this Maximo release, IBM... [More]

I have been trying to figure out for the last few months what to write my new blog about. I decided that I would create a running series of tips and tricks that can be used in Maximo and do a running entries as I learn them. So my first entry will be today about the item master application and adding a new asset taking into account the default stock categories.
In Maximo 7 we have the ability to set the default stock category in the Organizations applications:
