Do you follow the 3 second rule? You drop a fabulous piece of toast and you have 3 seconds to quickly pick it up from the floor and still eat it - before it becomes contaminated?
Do you also apply that same rule to metrics or reports? The information must be analyzed and understood within 3 seconds or the user discards it and moves on to the next task.
Quickly consuming BI data is a critical, increasing requirement of businesses today. Using the new Cognos BI... [More]
New properties in Maximo 7.6 have made it easier to change the way the buttons appear in the Maximo Navbar.
Depending upon your personal preference you can show the header buttons as they show in Maximo 7.5 or you
can set it to use the more modern button positioning and appearance. If you upgrade from a previous version of
Maximo then it defaults to the traditional appearance and if you have a fresh install of version 7.6 it defaults to the
modern look. The image below shows what I mean by the modern... [More]
This post describes a solution to the Locale-specific decimal separator-related problem that may cause the Inventory Options dialog to load without values. This document will be useful to you if you see the following when going to Administration > Organizations > Inventory Options > Inventory Defaults:
Out-of-box Maximo has 3 inventory-related MAXVARS that, like all MAXVARS, are stored as String values in MAXVARS.VARVALUE and MAXVARTYPE.DEFAULTVALUE. These MAXVARS,... [More]
In Maximo development, we have a cursory knowledge of email systems and we don't support configuring or troubleshooting on the other side of the JavaMail API. However, occasionally we're asked about platform specific connectivity and, occasionally, credential problems, in particular:
"javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException Logon failure unknown user name or bad password."
We have yet to encounter a case other than this meaning exactly what is says. It's a bad... [More]
So, end of March, and time to blog again. I was going to do an entry on upgrading from Maximo 18.104.22.168 to Maximo 22.214.171.124. Things didn't work out as I planned. I have 26 screen shots ready for that post (or posts), but at about screen shot 24, I realized that I had goofed. Instead of upgrading from Maximo 126.96.36.199, my upgrade database was at Maximo 188.8.131.52. That is not supposed to be upgradeable to 184.108.40.206. Rules are, follow the instructions step-by-step, and don't magically hope that the 220.127.116.11 upgrade will update my database without a... [More]
Are you having issues trying to associate multiple applications in the Go To detail menu of a specific field ?
This could be happening because of a syntax issue for when multiple application names are used in the applink property of a field.
In Application Designer, you have the option to add an application in the Go To detail button from a field, but the question here would be : Is it possible to have multiple applications in that particular Go To menu from the details button?
The answer is YES, however you... [More]
Crossover domains can be a convenient way to copy values from a parent work order to a new child when adding a child work order. In most cases this works without a problem. However, if the values being copied from parent to child include ASSETNUM, LOCATION, and/or GLACCOUNT, the crossover domain may not work as expected. This is the case if these values do not match, for example, if the ASSETNUM does not reside at the location specified by LOCATION, or if the GLACCOUNT does not match the ASSETNUM/LOCATION combination.
In my previous blog post, “How to add a Maximo related object to IBM Maximo Anywhere” , I provided an example for adding a Maximo related object into a Maximo Anywhere app user interface (UI). The example added the communications log object, which is related to the work order, to the Maximo Anywhere Work Execution app. This included:
A view to show the list of communication logs that are related to the work order.
A view to show the details of each communication log.
I have documented additional steps to... [More]
There is a bulldog on my toast. Combined with a steaming cup of coffee, its consumption is highly restricted.
You may also set up data restrictions in your Maximo environment - enabling users access to various subsets of data. Typical types of data restrictions include Organization and Site data restrictions.
Starting with Maximo 76 , new site, organization and set restrictions are applied to the metadata publishing process. This new restrictions enable that the user... [More]
Are you tired of extra clicks? Have you wondered if it was possible to skip the HTML display page and output your BIRT report directly to PDF? Well then, you've come to the right place!
In Maximo 7.5, the default is to run the report in HTML browser window, followed by outputting to PDF. However, I've found in many cases that users want the output in PDF format directly. Now, before we get technical, it is important to note that this change is not officially supported by IBM.
In order to... [More]

I took a bit of a hiatus from blogging during the month of February being out for a large portion of it at the IBM Interconnect Conference. But I'm back in the full swing of things now and want to share a bit of knowledge on Authenticating to your LDAP secured Maximo environment. This may be common knowledge to some as it is documented by other means. However for those who haven't ventured into configuring Maximo Anywhere to authenticate with LDAP, you need not worry as there isn't much to it!
To get started we have one... [More]
It has been brought to Maximo L2 Support's attention that 2 manual steps for issue numbers APAR #: IV65124 & APAR #: IV68129 are incorrect. the 2 sections are listed below. The bold sections are the incorrect steps which are then followed by the correct steps. The issue is that it states to ADD the section when it should state REPLACE.
