Hover windows are enabled on some fields so you can hover over the field and
see information about the record that is specified in the field. For example, you can
hover over the Asset field in a work order to see the status of the asset.

Many times when you plan an upgrade to the next major release of Maximo Asset Managment, one of the first questions you ask yourself is 'What will this do to my existing data and customizations?'
Today we have posted spreadsheets that detail the table and column differences between Maximo Asset Management v184.108.40.206 and v220.127.116.11, and also between v18.104.22.168 and v7.6.0 on the Maximo upgrade resources page.

I have been in Maximo Support for many years and often the question comes up what does LIFO/FIFO do?
You can define your costs on an item by item basis by changing the cost type in Inventory on that item or a default for your site in the Organization application->Select Action->Inventory Options->Inventory Costs.
In here, you can define what accounting method you want to track so that your costs reflect the standard for that item.
When you do that, the Inventory application displays a different table.
Today, I'm going to go over step by step installing an Interim Fix. At first glance, this might seem to be a minor topic. After all, we have been releasing Interim Fixes and Fix Packs for Maximo for years now. And why another long blog post for it?
It is because the process for installing Interim Fixes (and later on, Fix Packs as well) has changed significantly for Maximo 7.6.
Beginning with this Interim Fix, we are now able to take advantage of the installation technology we introduced with this Maximo release, IBM... [More]
We've had a few calls about this one, so I thought a quick post here would be helpful. When you download Maximo 7.6 from Passport Advantage, you need to extract and combine all of the decompressed files into a single directory. On Windows, it will look something like this:
12/12/2014 11:36 AM <DIR> .
12/12/2014 11:36 AM <DIR> ..
11/26/2014 11:15... [More]
I have been trying to figure out for the last few months what to write my new blog about. I decided that I would create a running series of tips and tricks that can be used in Maximo and do a running entries as I learn them. So my first entry will be today about the item master application and adding a new asset taking into account the default stock categories.
In Maximo 7 we have the ability to set the default stock category in the Organizations applications:
The default stock category set in the... [More]
I have a dispute...with a yardstick. He proudly displayed 'Everything you Want' after another 11.5" of snow was received. With a total snowfall of over 90" in the last 4 weeks, I could only shake my frozen, wool scarf and hat covered head in dismay.
The new Cognos BI Features in Maximo 76 give you ' Everything You Want '. New entitlement to the Cognos10.2.1 BI Server gives you direct access to its powerful enterprise tools including Cognos... [More]
Did you know that Maximo cron tasks have some built in fault tolerance? Did you know that where cron tasks run can be controlled? Did you know that by using built in functionality, you can manage load on any particular JVM server? It’s all there and it’s been there for a long time. Here we’ll tell you about best practices in using this function and about a brand new property in Maximo 7.6.
As far back as 2005 cron tasks have had some fault tolerant capabilities. To understand... [More]
If you have added just a few database entries to a table that has a language table and want to add an entry in the language table for a secondary language, you can do this manually.
In this example, we will insert an Italian and German record in the Language table for Maxlabels.
Before you try adding secondary translations, make sure Multi Language is set up for your column,
select mlsupported, mlinuse from maxattribute where objectname = 'MAXLABELS' and attributename = 'VALUE';

It can happen you misplace your password for the WebSphere Administrative Console where you have your Maximo deployed.
There are various ways to retrieve such a password and if your account is locked, how to unlock the account.
The 2 main ways to disable and again enable the security are as follows:
A) By way of manual edit of the security.xml file -->
1. Create a copy of the security.xml file, in the event you need to do any roll backs.
2. Disable the security from the security.xml file (change... [More]

Are you a business partner who implements Maximo and is looking for ways to differentiate your services? Are you a customer thinking about implementing Maximo and you want to get to fast ROI? Does 60 minutes seem ridiculous? A couple of years ago you would have been right. It was ridiculous to think you could have the most powerful asset management platform software running with industry best practices and your data in an hour. Today, it’s possible.
