Welcome to the Endpoint Management Blog, where you can read the perspectives from network and service assurance experts. This Blog provides insights into the endpoint management solution, as well as technical details about specific IBM products.
The REST API is the primary programming interface to the Endpoint Manager Server.
You can use it to query the Endpoint Manager system, integrate it with other systems, or even write your own user interface.
If you're new to the REST API I hope this post will get you started and help you explore its features.
You'll need the following:
Access to your IBM Endpoint Manager Server's REST API.
Administration rights over at least one computer

Managing even a simple datacenter entails some pretty complex activities… things like performing server builds, ensuring security compliance on servers, managing both a physical and virtual server environment as well as keeping servers patched. Just patching is a complex activity as you have to deal with everything from patching single servers to patching business services that span multiple servers as well as patching nodes in a cluster… all while ensuring your servers are in a maintenance window and in some cases ensuring... IBM Endpoint Manager and MaaS360 have recently been named as leaders in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Client Management Tools and Enterprise Mobility Management respectively for the 3 rd year in a row. This recognition comes at a critical time as the mobile workforce grows exponentially and initiatives like BYOD continue to become embedded in the workplace.
IBM Endpoint Manager provides real time visibility and control over all endpoints - from servers to laptops - enabling organizations to find and fix problems in minutes.... [More]
Have you ever tried to make a large withdrawal from an ATM only to be declined? It’s probably because there are automatic safeguards in place for large withdrawals to prevent misuse and financial damage—in case a merchant makes an error charging you more than they are required to; or if your card and access details were compromised and fell into the wrong hands. You’ll likely have to get approval from the bank manager in person in order to make a large withdrawal. This allows the bank to verify that only authorized individuals... [More]
Hello World! :)
I have had an issue the other days about using the new ILMT 9.x (IBM License Metric Tool) in parallel with IEM for SUA 9.x (IBM Endpoint Manager for Software Use Analysis). Even raised an APAR for it, APAR IV59595, raised to clarify this and add the details in the IEM for SUA's InfoCenter.
Speaking of InfoCenter, I have found this link:
New flash training released for Tivoli Endpoint Manager v 8.2
This module is titled: Manually adding new software titles to the software usage analysis catalog
See all Tivoli IEA content here:
Preparing your Tivoli Endpoint Manager Server for Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment installation
To install Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment using Tivoli Endpoint Manager you need to prepare a target endpoint to install Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment. Tivoli Endpoint Manager takes care of the installation perquisites to be performed on this endpoint as required by Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment. This includes database installation.
Tivoli Endpoint Manager 8.2... [More]
Recently I needed to pull specific analysis results from my deployment via the REST API. The only way to do this is using the /api/query ( http://bigfix.me/restapi/?id=306 ).
This meant that I needed to figure out a session relevance statement to do this and quickly. Since I’m not a native “session relevance speaker”, I looked at my options. One was to research, research, and more research using very valuable public resources like the Inspectors Guide ( http://support.bigfix.com/inspectors/Fixlet%20Objects_Any.html... [More]
Congratulations to the Endpoint Manager Development and Product Management teams for advancing even further in the leader’s quadrant of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Client Management Tools. This year IBM advanced in both the ability to execute and completeness of vision metrics and is now one of only three companies remaining in the leader’s quadrant. This is a tremendous recognition of the new offerings introduced last year including Endpoint Manager for Mobile Devices and Endpoint Manager for Server Automation,... [More]
In November 2012, we introduced a new operating system deployment product release, OS Deployment and Bare Metal Imaging 3.0 . You can read about all of the great features in this blog post by Jason here . In order to facilitate bringing our users the best possible combination of functionality and usability, we need to retire some of the older OS deployment sites, which have less functionality and, in fact, are completely deprecated by the new OS Deployment and Bare Metal Imaging site. In approximately 6 months time, we will be retiring... [More]
Many companies look at Software Asset Management (SAM) as
something they can manage with spreadsheets and home grown software. Until a software company performs a license
audit and they find their spreadsheets are out of date and then the CEO wants
to know why the company is faced with a huge unplanned software bill. Or maybe their software costs are consuming
more and more of their limited IT budget and management wants to know if all
these software licenses are really being used.
Seems like a good question, but they can’t even... [More]

At the Monday morning Pulse general session there was a lot of talk about the coming convergence of three major technologies: Mobile , Cloud and Big Data. IBM sees this as a major transformation of IT which requires a holistic approach. However, at the same time it was mentioned that 49% of CIO see a gap in there ability to execute. How can they address the need to do more, faster while budgets are shrinking? The answer is in the ability to balance innovation with optimization, which can result in improved efficiency. Let’s look at... [More]
you look at the lifecycle management needs of distributed endpoints and
data center servers you quickly realize they are quite similar. They all need software distribution, patch management, OS deployment and inventory management. With
the delivery of IBM Endpoint Manager for Server Automation , which
builds upon IBM Endpoint Manager for Lifecycle Management, you can now
manage desktops, laptops and data center servers (both
physical and virtual) from a single user interface. With
task sequencing you can now perform... [More]
This should be a great year for endpoint management at Pulse. I have been working on the sessions for Pulse and we have an abundance of customers led sessions this year. In the Best Practices and Case Studies in Endpoint Management track, which is part of the larger Mobile track, customers will describe how they are using endpoint managment. The focus this year is on delivering more technical content. There is also a new Endpoint Management User Group meeting on Sunday. Read all about it in my Pulse Blog . Hope to see you there. ...
