I bet you know an IBM Champion or two!  I know I do.  I’ve blogged about this wonderful group in the past and lovingly call them “IBM’s BEST Friends”.    In IBM’s definition, IBM Champions are thought leaders and advocates who share their opinions and years of experience with people like you.

 

These people are recognized by IBM for their extensive contributions to the community and IBM Champions help make IBM communities a vibrant, meaningful and useful resource. IBM Champions are sought after experts in their field, and as such, have become renowned speakers at IBM and user group events worldwide.

 

At this year’s Information on Demand Conference (iod11), we will have 59 IBM Champions in attendance & speaking.  An impressive 80 of the planned sessions across all the Forums and a variety of tracks is being led by one or more of our IBM Champions.   The full list of 80 sessions can be found in this IBM Champions for Business Analytics, Enterprise Content Management and Information Management PDF document.

IBM officially calls them Information Champions, but I call them “IBM’s Best Friends”. 

 

Who are our Information Champions, what do these people do, and how can you become one yourself?  These questions are answered very well on the official website which I’ve reposted here in my blog:

 

IBM Welcomes 2010 group of Information Champions from Cognos, Data Management, Enterprise Content Management and InfoSphere segments

Technical communities, Web sites, books, conference speakers and blogs all contribute to the success of IBM’s Information Management products. But these activities don’t run themselves. Behind the scenes there are dedicated and loyal individuals who put in their own time to run user groups, manage community Web sites, speak at conferences, post to forums and write blogs. Their time is uncompensated.

IBM honors the commitment of these individuals with a special designation - Information Champion - as a way of showing our appreciation for the time and energy these exceptional community members expend.

Information Champions are objective experts. They have no official obligation to IBM. They simply share their opinions and years of experience with others in the field, and their work contributes greatly to the overall success of IBM Information Management.
What does an Information Champion receive?

• Featured profile on the IBM Information Management Web site
• Special invitation to events
• Customized crystal honoring Information Champion status
• IBM contacts within the Information Management product development teams to facilitate communication with IBM labs
• Technical resources such as early access to Information Management software

 

I’d like to specifically mention a few of these champions by name who have worked with me to publish books and create DB2 certification exams.  I give each of these people my personal recommendation for the work that they do.
