I recently invested in good headphones... and I'm glad I did. I've already used them for an ILO course, listened to the many podcasts, watched the new IBM commercials on YouTube, watched the videos on ChannelDB2, and will likely find many more purposes.
IBM's list of ILO courses is growing steadily. My recommendation... Make sure that you fully test your headphones and mic BEFORE the session. You'll have a much more productive ILO session if you do.
Kate blogged about the many podcasts that are available right now, and today the IBM Press newsletter featured many more. Podcasts are available from the following people: Danny Arnold, Dwaine Snow, Sandy Carter, Larry Klosterboer, Sara J. Moulton Reger, Raul F. Chong, Paul Zikopoulos, John Arthur Ricketts, Mike Moran, Tara Woodman, Ellice Uffer, and Scott Spangler.
I've been trying to mention as many of the IBM commercials as I can... here is the latest... . this one is called "When it Rains".
IDUG also has a growing list of courses and podcasts that you may find helpful.
ChannelDB2 contains a broad spectrum of resources including videocasts, podcasts, and more. If you would like to contribute your unique view on the DB2 products, film or record yourself and add the result to ChannelDB2.
I took a bit of time today to listen to a few recently published podcasts. Sometimes it feels like a luxury to listen to great content rather than reading. This time while listening, I took a few notes to share with you:
IBM Champions Ian Bjorhovde and Fred Sobotka -The Whole Package Cache
I have met Ian and Fred at conferences many times and always enjoy the lively conversations and twitter conversations. Now you can pretend you’re part of the conversation by listening to their podcasts. Rather than having a specific theme for each podcast, they have a discussion about several current events. Two podcasts have been recorded to date, but watch for more!
This podcast discussed flipboards, blog discussions, and conferences. Ian and Fred gave pros and cons of various conferences and gave information on how you can attempt to reduce your conference fee.
The second podcast answers questions that the first podcast generated, slideshares, the amazing Melanie Stopfer, IDUG’s Performance Month, db2top, Ember Crooks’ blog, RoadHouse,
Be sure to look at the website for notes and links.
Phil Downey from Australia talks with David Pittman about why BLU is cool. Phil works for IBM and is one of the experts that we in social media rely on for his point of view on blogs, linkedIN, and twitter. You’ll like this short podcast hearing Phil express his opinions regarding this software.
IBM Champion & DB2 expert Iqbal Goralwalla and IBM DB2 Program Director George Baklarz have created a series of 7 podcasts that take us through the 7 Big Ideas for DB2 10.5. Seven different facets of BLU that improve performance.
Big Idea 1: Simple to Implement and Use
Big Idea 2: Compression and Computer-Friendly Encoding
Big Idea 3: Multiply the Power of the CPU
Big Idea 4: Core-Friendly Parallelism
Big Idea 5: Column Store
Big Idea 6: Scan-Friendly Memory Caching
Big Idea 7: Data Skipping
Listen to all 7 podcasts and you’ll learn a lot. The discussions are technical but very well organized and easy to understand. Clearly both Iqbal & George have gone very deep into this new technology.
