There has been lots to read about DB2 pureScale in the past couple of weeks, but if you're like me... you've been too busy to read much of the press and are therefore missing some key information. I plan to attend the upcoming DB2 Chat webcast on Wednesday, Oct 21 so I can learn what I need to learn. I hope you can join too!
Here are the details:
DB2 pureScale: Scaling Databases without Limits
Date: Wednesday, October 21, 2009
Time: 11:30 - 13:00 Eastern (GMT-04:00)
10:30 AM Central / 8:30 AM Pacific / 16:30 hrs London / 17:30 hrs Frankfurt, Paris / India 9PM
Presented By: Experts from Toronto Lab: Sal Vella (IBM), Matt Huras (IBM), Aamer Sachedina (IBM)
DB2 pureScale is an integrated solution that provides virtually unlimited scalability for all your transaction processing needs while ensuring continuous database availability. It allows you to scale capacity dynamically to meet peak demands, and pay for only the resources you require. In this webcast experts from the IBM labs will share technical details about DB2 pureScale.
Sal Vella - Vice President,
Matt Huras - Distinguished Engineer,
Aamer Sachedina - Senior DB2 Architect,
to learn how you can scale your existing and new database applications transparently with DB2 pureScale.

DB2 9 is a leading-edge hybrid data server that offers optimum storage, scalability, and availability. DB2 pureScale is a new technology primarily optimize for scale-out transactional processing clusters in an active-active manner. This succinct guide will show you how DB2 with pureScale can provide you transparent application scalability, the ability to deliver agile-like computing to your transaction systems, and extreme availability.
Want even more information about DB2 pureScale? See the blog entry I wrote in August: More on DB2 pureScale.
The next Chat with the Lab session will focus on DB2 pureScale:
Date: Tue, August 31, 2010
Time: 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM Eastern (GMT-04:00)
10:30 AM Central / 8:30 AM Pacific / 16:30hrs London / 17:30hrs Frankfurt, Paris / India 9 PM
Speakers: Sal Vella (IBM), Drew Bradstock (IBM)
Host: Rav Ahuja (IBM)
Last year IBM released DB2 pureScale, an integrated database cluster solution that provides continuous data availability, virtually unlimited capacity, elastic scalability, and all this with easy setup and management but without requiring any applications changes. IBM has recently updated DB2 pureScale and announced that it will now also be available to run on Intel-based commodity hardware and Linux. In this webcast we will cover various DB2 pureScale related topics including: architecture, benefits, demos, experiences, and getting started.
To learn more and get your questions answered, join Sal Vella (VP,
Development), and Drew
Bradstock (Product Manager) on Tuesday August 31, 2010 at 11:30 AM Eastern.
Presentation charts for this Chat will be available for download from ibm.com/db2/labchats 1-2 days prior to the event.

Attend this seminar to learn how to leverage the latest DB2 for LUW features such as DB2 pureScale and Storage Optimization. DB2 pureScale provides unlimited capacity, continuous availability and application transparency. It delivers levels of database scalabililty and availability previously unmatched on distributed systems. The DB2 Storage Optimization Feature gives you the ability to transparently compress data on disk in order to decrease disk space and storage infrastructure requirements.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This event has 3 hours of content, and has been organized to be of interest to database administrators, data architects, and anyone who has an interest in running OLTP systems without having to worry about changing their application code when adding system capacity. Interested in Active-Active? Come and learn more.
Sal Vella is the Vice President, Development, Distributed Data Servers and Data Warehousing based in the IBM Canada Laboratory in Toronto, Canada. In this role, he is responsible for the world-wide development of DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows and for solidDB.
Matt Huras, Distinguished Engineer, is the lead architect of the DB2 pureScale feature. Matt has had extensive experience with DB2 for LUW storage engine, including indexing, data management, buffering, memory management, threading and scheduling, utilities and high availability.
