Details about the episode: In episode #Z08, special guest Julian Stuhler (IBM Gold Consultant, IBM Champion and former IDUG president) gave an excellent overview of the many ways you can exploit DB2 using the Java programming language; varying from simple JDBC to PureQuery. But he also discussed the impedance mismatch between Java and Relational Databases and the new features... [More]

What a great year it’s been for those involved in the DB2Night Show this year! The successes include: 1) First running of the “DB2’s Got Talent” Competition The DB2Night Show’s “DB2’s Got Talent” competition. This took place in the first few months of the year and continues to please me and others. Norberto won the IDUG pass as a prize for winning the competition and it was his... [More]
This year we published 3 very popular Flashbooks for the IOD conference that took place in 2011. A flashbook is a small, single-purpose printed book that we produce specifically for attendees at conferences and events. We feel that this is a way to summarize some of the key messages that we think you’ll benefit greatly from. With a book such as this, you get a single version of the truth, rather than trying to filter through vast amounts of information on the internet. If you didn’t attend the conference, or didn’t get a printed copy of... [More]
These are books that I’ve worked on one way or another in the past year. In most cases the links are to the e-version of the book… usually Kindle. I have a Kindle and really like to read my books using this device. With the prices of Kindles this year, I’m sure there will be many more people with a book reader in the coming year. Also, the popularity of iPads only increases with time. Note that some of these books haven’t published yet, but will soon. I haven’t noted which to encourage you to click the link to find out. I know that... [More]
The exam that you need to pass to start your journey on the road to DB2 Certification is the DB2 Family Fundamentals Exam 730. There is a heavy SQL component to the exam, and most people who use DB2 daily should find this exam fairly easy. You’ll find it easier as well if you examine the objectives and use one or more of the listed study materials. Database Associate Certification Role Exam 730 – DB2 9 Family Fundamentals Number of... Previously I blogged about the benefits of getting certified . If, after reading that, you decide you want to earn a DB2 certification, what is the process? Choose Job Role First you need to decide what job role you’d like a certification for. For many people this is easy. If you work as a DBA, get the DBA certification… easy. But some people end up performing multiple roles in the course of their job. The primary job roles that affect DB2 users are: Academic Associate, Database Associate, Database Administrator, Advanced Database... [More]
