I hope you’re taking part in some of the learning opportunities available now
that DB2 10 & InfoSphere Warehouse 10 have released. Check out my blog from
yesterday about all kinds of options: April 30, 2012: GA of Version 10 products: DB2 for LUW and
InfoSphere Warehouse .
Today I want to expand on a couple of webinars that I mention in that post.
First off, the DB2 Night Show . Last Friday, May 4, host
Scott Hayes invited IBMers Danny Arn old and Glen Sheffeld
to talk about the latest release: DB2 LUW
Today’s show had two very important purposes. 1, to give us valuable
information about the upcoming IDUG
conference and 2, to reveal the winner of this year’s DB2’s Got Talent
competition. If you’ve been following the competition, you’ll know that the
competition was really strong this year. This meant that some amazing talent
did not make it to the top 3, but those who did were consistently good at
entertaining and educating all the listeners.
The prizes for the winners were provided by very generous sponsors. My... [More]
I had to miss the show on March 30th, but hopefully you were able to attend
the show live. I’m listening to the replay and here’s a summary of what took
The theme for this show was for the contestants to showcase their best
success story with DB2.
Today was the third show of the finals for the DB2’s Got Talent 2012
Competition. I wasn’t able to participate, so IBM Champion, Julian Stuhler
filled in for me. Thanks Jules!
If you didn’t participate live, I strongly encourage you to watch the replay . We had... [More]
Today was the second show of the finals for the DB2’s Got Talent 2012
Competition. I wasn’t able to participate, so IBM Champion, Cristian
Molaro filled in for me. Like many of you, I’m listening to the replay a
few days after the live show.
If you didn’t participate live, I strongly encourage you to watch the replay . We had the
top 10 contestants from Round 1 present 4-minute technical presentations to us.
Once again, we ended up with very high quality presentations from very
experienced users of DB2 products.
IDUG is already filled with amazing learning opportunities, as mentioned in
my blog entry: IDUG Denver – May
2012 , but here are more for you to consider. At the IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in
Denver, Colorado, USA , taking place May 14-18, 2012 at the Colorado Convention
Center , you can take advantage of specialty Full-Day Seminars
for an in-depth look at a topic that is relevant to
Seminars are held on Monday, May 14 and provide a great start to
your IDUG week by giving you access to some of the top... [More]
Today was the first show of the finals for the DB2’s Got Talent 2012
Competition. If you didn’t participate live, I strongly encourage you to watch
the replay . We
had the top 10 contestants from February present 4-minute technical
presentations to us. Again, the caliber of the presentations blew me away. At
least 3 times the phrase “That’s the way you do it!” came to my mind as
contestants were presenting. Not only were their slides well done, but so were
their presentations of the material. To all 10: well done!
Today was the fourth and final show of the first round of the DB2’s Got
Talent Competition. If you didn’t participate live, I strongly encourage you to
watch the replay . We had 7
contestants as well as an extra special presentation from judge Klaas
Brant . The caliber of the presentations today blew me away. We judges had
a very hard time selecting 3 to move on and were hoping we could save a few
more. But alas, 3 was our max. Here’s how it played out.
Contestant 1 – Brian
Brian used a... [More]

show of this year’s competition. If you missed it, I strongly encourage you to
watch the replay . Here’s what you’ll get:
Contestant 1 – Rodolpho
Tips for End of DB2 Log & Reset RBA Process
The problem Rodolpho discussed in his presentation was about the end of logs…
which is like the end of the world! This shouldn’t happen as quickly as it is,
but data is being added to databases at unprecedented rates, so it is
happening. Rodolpho’s... [More]

Contestant 1 – Kohli
Kohli’s presentation showed how you can backup your database on one
filesystem and redirect it to another. He very clearly went through a scenario
where he did so and showed the errors that can result and how to solve the
issues. Unfortunately Kohli ran out of time during... [More]
