For the first time in the history of the DB2 certification program, we created an upgrade exam to help those certified as a DBA for Version 7 quickly recertify as a DBA for Version 8. Exam 706, the DB2 UDB V8.1 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Database Administration Upgrade Exam, has 30 questions that are related to DB2 UDB Version 8 ONLY.
The DB2 Version 7 Certification Exams were wildly popular, so the idea was that we could help all those people recertify very easily with a half priced exam, but it didn't work out that way at all!
Our DB2 Version 8 Certification Exams have now exceeded the popularity of the Version 7 exams, but only a very small fraction of people took the upgrade exam route. I wonder why?
To compare the exams:
# Questions: 70
Time limit: 90 min
Tasks covered: All DBA tasks
# Questions: 30
Time limit: 45 min
Tasks covered: Only V8 content
Personally I would prefer to take Exam 706 as there are fewer questions, but perhaps people feel that Exam 706 is much more difficult than Exam 701? Surprisingly the over all pass rate is the same for both exams, so it seems to me that the difficulty level is equivalent.
If you are still certified as a DBA at the V7 level only, consider upgrading to V8 by taking Exam 706 and then let me know what you think. We're wondering if we should go through the effort of creating another upgrade exam for the next release.
If you would like some tips as to which book you should use to prepare for Exam 706, I would suggest one of the following:
