I wrote one blog entry about Watson competing on Jeopardy against former champions Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter on Dec 15: Watson competing on Jeopardy - who will win? and have wanted to blog a few times since, but thought… what’s the point?
There are so many amazing articles being written about this event that there is really nothing I can add. So, instead of telling you what you likely have already read somewhere else, let me give a few personal notes and then point to some of the articles I’ve read.
I watched the first episode last night with my 12 year old son. We enjoyed the format of the show in that it gives the technical background to how Watson was created and the value Watson brings to the future of computing. My son could answer some of the questions faster than the competitors, but I was amazed at how fast the round went. It was disappointing when it ended because it seemed way too short. Good thing we have two more nights to watch.
Was it a bug that Watson gave the same answer as one of the other competitors? Or is that a result of the fact that Watson can’t actually hear what is going on? It seems like this is something that could be taken care of.
On Thursday in the Toronto Lab, we are having a session with the creators of Watson. We’ll be asking questions and recording the whole encounter as a podcast. If you have questions you want us to ask, post them in the comments and I’ll see what I can do.
Ok, here are some of the links that I’ve recently checked out. I’ll need as many power7s as Watson to be able to read all the articles that have been written so far!
