I encourage you to read the following for expert opinions on the value of certification:
- Article by Roger Sanders: DB2 10.x certification: Everything you need to know
- Ember Crook’s blog entry about certifications: IBM DB2 Certification – Why it is Worth it
New this year is the DB2 10.1 Fundamentals Certification Study Guide by Roger Sanders. Roger was one of the developers who created the exam questions for Exam 610. He provides information that makes it very easy for you to learn the content that you need to pass the exam, including a sample test that provides answers with explanations as to why the answer is correct. Roger’s book will be available for sale at the IBM Insight Conference bookstore. You can meet Roger in person and ask for study tips. For more information, see: DB2 10.1 Fundamentals: Certification Study Guide.
A new book for the DBA 10.5 exam is about to publish, but unfortunately, it will not be ready in time for the conference. You can pre-order the book here: DB2 10.1/10.5 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Database Administration: Certification Study Guide. Authors Mohankumar Saraswatipura and Robert Collins have taken up where Roger Sanders left off and have updated this book with Roger’s excellent style and methods.
Although not specifically a study guide, you’ll do well by learning the content in this book: DB2 Essentials: Understanding DB2 in a Big Data World (3rd Edition) by Raul F. Chong and Clara Liu.
There are free resources that you can use as well. There is a series of developerWorks tutorials that have already helped many people pass these exams. Here is a blog post from Norberto who created the first tutorial in the series: DB2 10.1 Certification Exam tutorial - Part 1: Planning
