Once a book is published in English, we try to make it available in as many English-speaking countries as possible, but occasionally there are problems with this. Many countries have very strict import rules that require much of the creation to take place in their country before it can be sold. This is the case for India, but if we have an Indian company print and bind the book for their country, the cost of the book will be much more affordable for local readers.
For a book to be truly useful, a translation into the local language is often required. This is tougher to accomplish since it requires extra handling of the book so extra costs are realized. The translators need to be paid and the local publisher needs to incur manufacturing costs to publish the translated book. As a result, publishers will only consider translating books if there is a substantial opportunity for sales.
We have many successful titles that have been translated into the following languages:
* Simplified Chinese
Another thing we are trying to do to help our international audience is to set up online bookstores that sell books in local currencies with reduced shipping costs. We currently have this set up in Canada, Europe, Russia, and India.
In Canada, you can purchase IBM Press books at a 30% discount directly from Pearson Canada, in Canadian dollars, at:
In Europe, you can purchase IBM Press books at a 30% discount directly from Pearson at:
Books are priced in Euros and they are currently having a special where several titles are available at a 40% discount. Order now as this offer ends at the end of August!
In India, there are several books reprinted in English and available at low prices in local currency. The official way to find and order the books is to contact Pearson India at:

That's what we've been able to arrange directly through the publisher, but search in your local countries to see if you can find online bookstores that sell the books. I doubt that you'll find any books at the bookstores, but you may wish to request a DB2 book as that will help encourage bookstores that there is a sizable market for these books.
Let me know if you have questions or want details on anything in this posting.
PS: Bookmark our international page to keep on top of the DB2 titles that are available world-wide:
