Have you been checking out this latest gadget: Amazon Kindle? I must admit... I do love gadgets, but rarely buy them until the kinks are worked out and the price comes down. While the kinks are being worked out, I read whatever feedback is available from all the early adopters.
I usually have 3-5 books on the go at any one time... and it isn't very practical to carry a stack of books with me....so the Kindle appeals to me so that I can keep track of all the books I'm currently reading and perhaps I'll have a better chance of actually finishing them... rather than have the books fall into a huge unmanageable pile!
The first thing I don't like about the Kindle is it's name. In the past couple of weeks, I think I've butchered the name into kimble, wimble, and several other unmentionables! Do you think the next edition of this gadget could come up with a more suitable name?
I enjoyed reading this article Why Amazon's Kindle is such a revolutionary e-book reader by Mike Elgan. Mike says I've always been skeptical about e-books, but Amazon has made a believer -- and a customer -- out of me. and did an amazing job of describing the pros and cons of the Kindle and going deeper into details as to how the Kindle works.
I've been told that all IBM Press books are already in the right format to be used with the Kindle, and I assume that the DB2 books published by other publishers are ready as well. One of the things I'd like to look into for the new year is to have Kindles loaded with DB2 books available in some way.
It would be great to get one of these for Christmas, but I doubt that I'll be that lucky. I'll keep reading the reviews about this device and will save my pennies so I can perhaps get one in the future!
