The web is wonderful, but the web is evil! Wonderful because it contains so
much content and evil because it contains so much content! It can be
overwhelming to navigate through the content and if you don’t immediately find
what you’re looking for, it is very easy to get distracted and forget what you
were looking for in the first place.
My intention for this blog entry is to help those who use the DB2 for z/OS
products find skills resources that are specific to you. I hope you find this

I like to believe that we all “have a book in us”. I’ve written two books
and found it hard work, but very gratifying to accomplish such a feat. I know
many authors and most feel the same way. You can tell by looking at how many
people become repeat authors!
Maybe not everyone can write a book, but for those who have an interest,
consider writing an article for starters. Many people come to me with ideas for
articles and books and I’ve helped people get published in many places. Most
recently I’ve worked with Dan Gibson... [More]

Friday’s DB2 Night Show had two very important purposes. 1, to give us
valuable information about the upcoming IDUG conference and 2, to reveal the winner of this year’s
DB2’s Got Talent competition. I’ve put my comments about the competition in
this blog entry: We HAVE a winner!
DB2’s Got Talent Competition
For the IDUG part, we had two guest speakers, Rob Crane (chair) and
Vijay Sitaram (chair-elect). They gave us all kinds of things to look
forward to. Here’s a summary:

“Flashbooks” are small-sized books that have fewer than 150 pages, and have easy-to-read messages about products, solutions, or technology. Flashbooks are published to coincide with conferences such as IBM’s Information on Demand Conference or IDUG. The huge quantity of messages and content delivered at such conferences makes it difficult for attendees to retain all the key messages. Flashbooks are designed to contain the key messages IBM experts want you to take away with you.
Flashbooks are handed out in print format at conferences and... [More]

Today’s show had two very important purposes. 1, to give us valuable
information about the upcoming IDUG

competition was really strong this year. This meant that some amazing talent
did not make it to the top 3, but those who did were consistently good at
entertaining and educating all the listeners.
The prizes for the winners were provided by very generous sponsors. My... [More]

consumption. ETL processes... [More]

I’ve been reading IBM Data Management magazine
since it was launched 15 years ago. I’m sure you’ve read an issue or two as
well! The next generation is about to launch and it will capitalize on digital
The world looked very different when the IBM Data Management
magazine was first launched. Digital technology allows a whole new world
of opportunities and the new online format gives us more flexibility to cover
the latest information management developments and IBM advances as they happen.
Apparently this is happening to many of our customers. They move from Oracle
to DB2 and achieve improved performance. Could this happen to you as well?
Here are some of the details of this particular case study:
JSC Rietumu Banka achieves faster database performance moving from
Oracle and Sun to IBM DB2 on Power Systems
With the worldwide recession placing pressure on banks to reduce costs, JSC
