Coming in time for the IDUG conference in Philadelphia is the latest DB2 certification guide:

DB2 10.1/10.5 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Database Administration: Certification Study Guide

I'm very pleased to congratulate first time authors Mohankumar Saraswatipura, Robert Collins on the great work they did on this book.  They worked with the content that was originally created and published by the certification master, Roger Sanders, and updated it to include the knowledge you need to know to pass the 10.1 (C2090-611) and 10.5 (C2090-311) certification exams.

Before I go further on the book, let me tell you a bit about these new authors.  If you pay attention to the rising stars of the DB2 community, then you've certainly noticed these two before.  Mohankumar was the winner of the 2013 DB2's Got Talent Competition via The DB2Night Show hosted by Scott Hayes.  Watch the replay of Mohan's winning presentation: DB2 9.7 Performance Tuning for Siebel 8.1 Application - A Complete Success Story.

Robert Collins aka Kent Collins has also been a guest on The DB2Night Show.  Watch the replay: DB2 BLU Experiences at ****
You can also see Kent in videos about DB2 with BLU Acceleration: IBM Big Data Solutions power BNSF Railways.

I haven't seen an early copy of the book, but Mohan and Kent gave us a preview when they were guests on Episodes 148 and 150 of The DB2Night Show that you can watch in replay:  The DB2Night Show #148: DB2 LUW 10.1/10.5 Certification Crammer Par1 and DB2 Night Show #150: DB2 LUW 10.1/10.5 Certification Crammer Par2.  From this show, you'll get experienced-based advice from the authors as well as sample test questions.

As in the Roger Sanders' versions of the Study Guides, you'll find that Mohan and Kent have continued the established traditions:
  1. The book is organized to match the exam objectives which you can find on the IBM Certification Site.
  2. There are sample questions in the book that are different than the official sample test
  3. The correct answers to each question are provided in the book.  You do not get the answers on the official sample test.
  4. Reasons for why the correct answer is correct are provided for each question.  You will not get this information in any other place.
  5. The authors have created "flash cards" to help you study for the exam and the publisher is looking for ways to deliver this to readers.

As we noticed in the show today (episode 150) many people need to read this book to pass!
