Abstract

How Can I Use an Existing Configuration for a New Installation of IBM Control Center 6.1.0.x?

Body

Beginning with release 6.0.0, Control Center started moving configuration elements to the database from the .xml files used in earlier releases.  These changes have made the earlier methods of using existing configurations invalid and no longer supported.

NOTE: Because of changes made migrating the configuration elements from the xml files to the database you will need to back up your database before going forward.  If for any reason you have to go back to the prior release you not be able to use the updated databases to revert to that earlier installation.  You will need to restore from the back up copy of the databases before reverting to the previous installation.

To use an existing configuration for a new installation of IBM Control Center version 6.1.0.x you must first run the exportConfig.sh or exportConfig.bat on the existing installation.  This will create the conf directory that you will use in the new installation.  This will be located in the …\<ControlCenter InstallationDirectory>\ControlCenter6.0.0\conf-exported\<datedDirectory>\conf.  For example:

…\ControlCenter6.0.0\conf-exported\ 20170615092634\conf

Once you have the desired configuration exported go to your new installation location and create the installation directory.  After creating the installation directory create the conf sub-directory.

When the creation of these directories is complete copy the exported conf directory into the newly created conf directory.

With this preparation work complete you can now begin the new installation.  During the installation you will point to your newly created installation directory when prompted and proceed with the installation as normal.  Once the installation is complete you are required to run the configCC if the installation is on a UNIX or Linux operating system.  Failure to do so will result in errors when trying to start Control Center.  You will see errors in the engine log:

[CCEngine(ccenter)] ERROR

CCEngine(ccenter) - Control Center database schema is not upto date.

Run configCC.bat/sh to update the database schema.
