BTI - Group Business Views

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

BTI - Group Business Views

Body

For those of you who are administering BTI, you may run across a time when you add a new user or group to your desktop and you don't see any data.  All data and running totals are zero.  This will happen if you have added a new user and don't have the user added to a group, or if you have the group added but haven't added a business view to it.

In addition to the security built into Customer Center, you can set up groups in BTI that have access to one particular business view and thus limit the data they can access.  You can also add users to multiple groups so that they can view one or more business views depending on their responsibilities.  This serves well to limit exposure of data to responsible (need-to-know) personnel only or possibly test data to particular individuals performing testing and you don't want to allow them full access to all data.  Again, note that the users must be added to the groups, and a business view added to the group, in order to view the any of the data.
