April is the month for Social Business in ASEAN. There are Business Gets Social (BGS) events across ASEAN countries. Following the era of the Internet is the era of Social. Then, we heard about eBusiness and eCommerce everywhere in the business world. Now, we are hearing Social Business and Smarter Commerce. Some years back, I was eBusiness Leader in an MNC and also eCommerce Project Lead in an airline. It was cool then.
I attended BGS in Singapore last week and Sandy Carter mentioned in the era of Social, there will be over 50 new titles. It is even more exciting now. Technology is ever evolving but is there enough skills development to meet the business needs?
Sandy’s keynote on Business Made Social was interesting. She talked about AGENDA that touches Culture, Trust, Experiences, Business Processes, Risk Management and last but not least, Analytics. She gave examples how social business helps in Marketing, HR, Product Development and Customer Service. While listening to her, I was relating to my recent experiences.
How nice if I can walk into a bank and not have to wait for half an hour before someone is available to open a fixed-deposit account for me. How good it will be if I am able to know those staying not too far from me or work around me, who are also down with flu or influenza and their experiences to recovery. How great it will be if I have some queries on a project or product and I am able to get response within 15mins. How fun it will be if I realize that I do not have a lunch partner at work for that day and able to find some.
Think social! How wonderful it can it if there are some innovative solution architects and software engineers leveraging on some cool social media technology to answer my wish list above. The social tools are there, the question is how businesses transform, acquire the right skills and find the right talents to advance in the Social era.
