The BlueMix Challenge Thailand has just ended with grand finals in Thailand on 20th July. Student finalists from eight universities camped overnight for the final hackathon from 19th July. The universities are Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, KMUTT, KMUITL, Assumption University, Kasetsart University, Rangsit University, Mahidol University. BlueMix workshop were held 22th -23th June and Hackathon on 19th July with grand finals in which 16 teams presented to judges on 20th July.
It is interesting to know students formed teams with friends from different universities rather than inter-school competition among universities. For example, the winner team has students from Chulalongkorn University and KMUTT Ladkrabang. The sight of students staying overnight on campus with passion and determination to complete their applications on BlueMix reminds me of the innovative and entrepreneurial culture in Thailand. Thailand tops ASEAN countries with the largest number of developers. Platform services like BlueMix (bluemix.net) will indeed benefit developers whether they are students or professionals to be able to code fast, test fast and deploy fast.
The winner team, Rao Prao Na Oh Yeah, impressed the judges, from Software Park, True Corp, IBM, AHost and University Professor, with their donation application called Donation Box. The application aims to help the Thai society to make donations to registered charity organizations and receive tax exempt proof that they can submit to relevant authority.
